Any word on what is going on with the presidency at Carlton? Dick doesn't look like he'll be back any time soon (ever) and the longer Sticks is in the job the more worried I get. He is a great loyal Carlton man, but he is not an administrator and I really don't want him close to any serious decisions. He seems to have been in the vicinity for most of our bad decision making in the past.

Getting Dick P involved was his great post playing coup, and hats off, but hopefully we get a long term pres soon, who is not mates with the various coaching appointments and is very sharp with admin etc.

Do we have someone good on the committee who can take over? Was there any time set on Sticks period as acting-prez? Maybe something might happen at the AGM?

"Dick P" doesn't sound too good when you say it out loud.

Forget Ahmed Fahour.

He's a salaryman, with no real personal wealth (not in the 'pres with deep pockets way). He's "never had the time" to previously become involved in any meaningful capacity before. Can anyone recall him rolling his sleeves up in the last 10 years? Anyone???

There are others with better credentials, better contacts, and a more proven willingness to work for the club.

As always John, you're a voice of reason. AF has done jack shit for the club.

I hear he's leaving NAB and moving overseas soon anyway. Bank restructuring is all the go at the moment.

Fahour only landed the NAB gig because he promised to bring with him citi banks biggest clients. Is not respected in the business world

Grrofunger is right,

Dick Pratt is pulling the shots... so we should just leave Sticks there as a 'puppet' President.

We can't and must not rely on Dick Pratts handouts for this club to survive. They must form a plan that looks beyond Richard and his money to ensure this club stays healthy and a power house club of the AFL

A very small snippet in the Hun today mentioned that our pokies license has been saved following discussions with VCGR.

Before considering the club's appeal, the VCGR was told that Sir Richard has resigned.

Do you reckon that Pratty was just sitting around at home when Sticks rolls up and hits him with an invitation that was out of the blue? Then Pratty says to himself, "What a great suggestion - I'll do it" ...

I reckon that Big Jack and Pratty had it all worked out before the election. Pratt had turned his back on Carlton while Smorgon was on the Board and needed him gone. Smorgon's election defeat cleared the decks for Pratty to return. Pratty also had the cartel case coming up, and would have known that a high-profile involvement in Carlton would give him a PR benefit for that fight (like with Grollo when he took on the Macedon Cross crusade before the ATO took him to Court). Big Jack and Sticks were good friends, and IIRC it was reported in the papers that Big Jack suggested to Sticks that he should go and have a talk to Pratty. He did, and Pratty accepted. Remember that prior to the election Big Jack foreshadowed that there was a big fish who was ready to save the day for Carlton, but he didn't want to get involved in the mudslinging of an election. Either he was Nostradamus, or he knew what would happen if Smorgon were to be rolled.

Does anyone else think it was like a schoolyard request for a date? Girl tells her friend that she wants to go out with a boy, friend goes to boy and says he should ask her out, boy asks her out and surprise, surprise, she says yes.

I reckon this is another example of how well Sticks can carry out simple tasks at the direction of the heavyweights, and his involvement can work well for the club at a romantic level. But when he thinks for himself, things go awry.

While Pratty is calling the shots, and Swanny is advising Pratty what to do, Sticks probably doesn't matter. But if any of that changes, run for the hills.

They're smarter blokes than us Melvey... they would have been onto this a long while ago. Just give Sticks his farewell in 2009 while they sort out who takes over. It won't be a problem.

Why would you leave Neverland when you can live happily ever after? Those of us living in the real world envy you.
