Not only is this year the 40th anniversary of the 1968 Premiership, being celebrated by the Spirit of Carlton, but it is the 100th anniversary of our 1908 Premiership. In 1908 Carlton only lost a single game, before taking the grand Final over Essendon* by 9 points.

The Blueseum intends to celebrate this in conjunction with carltonfc.com.au, but we're stuck for a good title of our historical article (which uses newspaper cuttings of the day to tell the story).

http://www.blueseum.org/tiki-index.php? ... al%2C+1908

Any ideas?

The day after we won the 1908 flag, the first production Model T Ford was built - on September 27, 1908, at the Piquette Plant in Detroit, Michigan.

As for the title (remembering that Essendon* were known as the 'Same Olds' in 1908 and Premiership Cups were not awarded until years later)

"Same Old story for Essendon* as Carlton win Third Flag"

I liked the story about Penny Taylor getting injured.

Cup or no Cup they were still Premierships.
Next year will be the 140th. anniversary of our very first Premiership in 1869.
Might be adding No.24 to the cupboard in 2009.

Thanks steve; that works well.

Attached is a link to the draft article - we're hoping to co-publish this on the front page of the Blueseum and on carltonfc.com.au next week, but if you have any comments or suggestions beforehand please let us know via PM or in this thread:

100 years ago, Carlton won our third premiership. For the first part of the story, click here:

Alternatively, for the fully linked version, try the above Blueseum link.

Parts 2 and 3 now up...

Does anyone know what Carlton scored in the second half of this match yet still won?

One behind for the second half and yet that was enough to win the game! Would have to be some sort of record. They obviously weren't worried about playing attractive football in those days.....just got the job done whatever it took. Not a bad philosophy really ....helps fill the premiership cabinet :-D
