First of all I think Greg Swan has been fantastic for Carlton. Dick Pratt pinched him from Colliongwood knowing he was capable of executing the plan to make Carlton a powerhouse again. With profits, new sponsors and record memberships we seem to be moving from strength to stength. One thing that leaves a sour taste in my mouth is the following quote on March 18 2008. Quote: Carlton chief executive Greg Swann said the Blues considered suspending Fevola for his latest indiscretion. Instead Swann threatened the trouble-prone spearhead that he would be sacked if he was involved in any more alcohol-related controversies. "Brendan has had an issue with alcohol, everything that has happened to him thus far has been connected to alcohol," Swann said. "We are seriously going to help him in that case and enrol him in some education and welfare courses. "We have also agreed with Brendan that if there are any more alcohol-related incidents then that will result in him being terminated by the Carlton football club." Swann said suspending Fevola would not address his problems. 2007 best and fairest winner Andrew Carrazzo told reporters earlier today that Fevola’s indiscretion was bad timing with the opening match for the season against Richmond just days away.
He is not executing this plan very well and at the end of the day they are just words and no action. Should he stay out of player issues and leave it to others at the club? At the moment he maybe looking soft to some people. |

I'm sure they're working on it in some way - not just for Fev, but for all of the club's ambassadors. What Fev and the rest of the guys need to realise is that the media are sharks and you can't do a damn thing about it. Like sharks, they will ignore you if you leave them unprovoked.... but, when there is blood in the water (like parading around the busiest intersection in the city that spawned the game with a 15-inch rubber cock hanging out of your outfit) they will go at you with everything they have got. I would be lying if i said that i didn't find the 'stunt' funny, but the fact is that Fev is a target for media scrutiny. He put himself in that position and he has to live with the attention - and the consequences that result if he is damaging the club's image. Mad Monday is a time for everyone associated with a footy club to unwind - its a party and everyone that has put in over the year is invited. Only dipshit teenagers think thay can have open-invite parties without any consequences. Over the years, the hangers-on have grown and that means it has greater social implications. That's not Fev's fault, but it is the environment that he has to operate in. The unwanted attention is now going to grow. Fev's stunt (as harmless as it was) may well have ruined Mad Monday for everyone. |

This is not only about Fev, it is about Swan making such a statement. I believe if he doesn't do anything then other players will see him as a person who is all talk and no action. Swan is in a difficult position now and I think this will bite him soon if not already. |

Clayman it depends on what you see as Swann having done badly. Yes, he made the statement. Since that time has Fev gotten into trouble with the law because of alcohol? Wearing a dildo, whilst in poor taste, isn't illegal. All he's other efforts with the club based on what I know, rates him, in my book, as brilliant. |

Swan is in a difficult position now and I think this will bite him soon if not already. So are you suggesting that Greg Swan sacks Fevola for drinking and dressing up with his team mates, getting on and off a club organised bus at different venues with club organised security to save his face? I reckon the "other" players would have pissed themselves laughing at his outfit. The "other" players would not give a flying flower about what happened on Monday. Fev would have won a prize for his creativity. |

Swanny is a gun operator. Not sure whether he has got the development issue right with Teague and Lappin in charge. I'm sure he is working on getting that right though. |

I dont think this thread is really about Greg Swann. Has more to do with getting rid of Fev. |

This was another alcohol related incident so I wouldn't be surprised if Fev has played his last game with the Blues. |

I'm pretty sure Fev decided to don the dildo while he was actually sober. So he's all clear with Swanny, I'd say. |

I'm sure Swanny at least gave him a clip across the ear behind the scenes though. |

Mentioning Swan and 'bad' in the same sentence is to me an incredible leap. He and Cook are absolute standouts as administrators and its the length of Flemington to most of the rest. Having played the last game of the season on Saturday, I think that technically Fev has 8 weeks off before he is required back at the club. So he's pretty much on his own time. |
