I'd say maybe 10-12 wins, or 8th-12th place on the ladder.

Some of our young guys like Gibbs, Murphy, Jamison, Bower and Grigg progressed nicely this year and hopefully will at least hold their form or improve further next year and help us make the finals.

My fear is that the emphasis will again be placed too heavily on the likes of Thornton in defence, Carrazzo and Stevens in the midfield, Cloke in the ruck and Fisher, Russell, Houlihan and Wiggins up forward.
While these players have performed very well at times, I think they lack the ability to perform at a high enough level on a consistent basis for us to go any higher on the ladder.

My hope is that Ratten and his assistants can formulate more effective game stategies and the likes of Walker, Gibbs, Hampson, Hartlett, Austin, Joseph, Pfeiffer, Anderson and Browne can step up a further notch and lessen the focus off those I mentioned above.

Looking forward to be pleasantly surprised in '09.

Who cares how many games we win or where we finish on the ladder...as long as Fevola gets 100 goals next season I'll be happy!

Finals.

Playing out matches evenly, not falling asleep for quarters at a time.

Beating Essendon*, Collingwood, North and Sydney.

Play for the team goals, not for individual glory.

Don't give a shit about Brownlows or Colemans or Fev's 100.

12-14 wins, but its possible we could stagnate a little, as the list is still very young.
I think 5-6, or 4th if things go really well, or we beat some crap side with a bunch of finished old hacks retiring in the last round. :-D

i'm confident that if we have a good run with injuries we will make the top 6 next year but let's not forget we won quite a few close games this year. 5 times we came back from 3/4 time deficits. as port adelaide found this season, those results can easily go the other way and it can ruin a season. i'm not saying we over-achieved, because we did lose a few games we should have won, but i wouldn't be surprised if we just missed out on the 8 again next year. as a few posters have already pointed out, we'll need to learn how to play 4 quarter footy if we're going to show any signifcant improvement.

if we can avoid injuries to these key players we'll be very hard to beat: judd will obviously get a pre-season under his belt and hopefully the power and speed will return so he can combine his outside game to his improved inside game. hadley could be very important if he plays every game. fevola will kick a ton if he plays every game. gibbs, murphy, kreuzer, grigg, hampson will all be much better with another pre-season under their belt. walker will stamp his mark on the comp if he has a good run with injury and ratten will also improve with a full afl season under his belt.

I'm pissed off we did not make finals this year.

If we do not make finals next year it will be a disgrace and heads will have to roll.

Finals minimum 2009.

Beating Hawthorn and North at the very minimum.

payback time has to start in 2009.

handing out a few 100 point thrashings would be nice too.

Our next flag will be in a year when there is a scary war going on in the world.

I think that this particular war will be a small one that will be a prelude to world war 3.

This war could break out anytime from September 2008 onwards.

The recent conflict in Georgia is a clear sign of things to come

The 17th flag for Carlton is completely unexpected. No one has the slightest idea that we will win.

In fact it only becomes apparent that we will go on and do well in the finals after we unexpectedly make the final 8 late in the season.

This will be because there is a sudden and very noticeable improvement in the the application and level of performace by our team towards the end of the home and away season.

Gibbs will have an amazingly good year - so a season where we start out OK - but Gibbs is doing very well each week - will be a clear sign of things to come.

No one else will see this as anything other than a small but positive step forward for a young middle order side - that now has a young player that is starting to do very well...

At the start of this fateful season, they will be saying that it will be a 'teambuilding' year for us.

And it will indeed be a teambuilding year - but the construction will proceed a bit faster than most expect.

2009 is the first year of the 3 year window of time in which I think
that these events will take place.

I am aware of many things at a political level that are going on right now that are setting us on a drift towards a massive conflagration. there are many things that could be done to prevent the war or else protect people from its effects - but these things just arent being done.

Instead many politicians both here and also overseas say that they are acting in your best interests - but instead, they are actually betraying your interests.

Its not appropriate to talk about these things at length in a post like this though..

However I do think that widening conflict will be the backdrop for our 17th flag - just as it has been for quite a few of our flags in the past.

So I am sorry to say that it will be a scary time.

In many ways I would like Carltons next flag to not occur during a war - because there will be many people, driven by jealousy and hatreds who will do their best to make our triumph out to be not as good as it will actually be.

But the truth will be that Carltons next flag will indeed be one of the best in our long history. But many people will resent that this is the case.

This sort of horseshit is exactly why I have Sydney on my "must beat" list for 09

Well, Blueman you must have a crystal ball.

If what you say is to happen, then it would have been this year.
No one would have expected us to make the finals or to be knocking on the door, next year and the following years the expectation is there.

If WW3 starts, then there will be no more football seasons, no more people.

PS.Can use send me next week's Tattslotto numbers?
