Post subject: | Sheedy's Snipe |
I was watching the friday night Foxtel Show called "Before the Bounce" which does a preview of the round. Jason Dunstall hosts and they often have Parkin, Brownless, Shaw, Frawley, etc. in a panel of three. This week they had the pathetic old sniper Sheedy as a panelist. As well as preview games they often show clips based on some theme, a sort of "top ten" thing. This week they were showing goals kicked straight back over your head. Included was a snap from Ian Aitken (yes the same one who was king hit by Clarkson). Sheedy started muttering something about him being the london doctor. Dunstall was totally confused and asked what was he on about. Sheedy claimed he was the player Carlton sent to the Bears, who instantly quit footy to move to london and study to become a Doctor and then claimed it was typical Carlton. Dunstall and the rest of the panel were still confused and shook it off to continue with the show. Anyway they may not have known what he was on about but I do, but typically Sheedy has got it half right. Sheedy was talking about the fact that each club was required to supply two players from there list for the newly formed club the Brisbane Bears. I'm not sure who we sent, but I'm positive Aitken was not one (He played in the 1987 Premiership - the year the Bears joined the AFL). Maybe some one on here can remember the two players who left Carlton to help form the Bears. And what happened to them? I'd also love to know who Essendon* sent I assume Merrett was one, but I doubt Sheeds wanted to let him go. He really is a pathetic old man, bitterly hanging on to old grudges, the sooner he fades into obscurity the better for everyone. |

From the Blueseum: "Carlton would first offer to Brisbane the following 3 players: Michael Aitken, a Doctor who was by this stage working overseas; Bruce Reid, who had retired; and Peter Kenny. Only Kenny would make it to Brisbane, and play a game, but in the ensuing discussions over Carlton's 'Three Bears' Neil Gaghan would also agree to go to Brisbane." |

Aitken certainly wasn't sent to the bears. He was "Rising Star" for the year for us, and played in the premiership the year the bears were formed. It was Michael Aitken who was sent over, but don't think he played a game. As for the others, Blueseum to the rescue Also, why do we give a shit what Sheedy has to say? |

I love that Sheedy is 100 and still bitter and petty, it gives me hope for the future. But I was very interested when he said that the Clokes are late developers and that the Pies got rid of Cameron too soon. |

I have been at functions at night when Sheedy has been obviously under the weather. Graeme Teasdale (who Sheedy potted as a Brownlow winner) was on Sport 927 this week and said "Kev's entitled to his opinion . It's a shame he can't offer it when he's sober". |

What Sheedy did do on the Fox program was continually make reference to Carltons cheating. Suggesting that Carlton would have no trouble paying Kerr as they would just do what they had always done. As a paid AFL employee he should be made to apologize to the encumbent Carlton Committee. And just on cheating who was Essendon* coach when they were found guilty twice in the 90,s and also under the Lloyd and Hird web site scam? |

Sam Smart was a doctor we sent to the Bears. He was living and working in London... Interestingly he was a mature aged tall when we drafted him.... His selection went something along these lines.... Parkin "we need a mature bodied big man" O'Sullivan "Here is a list of talls but one of them is mature bodied from SA but cant play" Parkin"I dont care of he can or cannot play... we need a mature bodied tall... draft him!!!" Good to see we take th whole thing more seriously these days.... |
