Premiership patience will be a virtue for fast-improving Blues Quote: At least one Carlton premiership player I spoke to believes the Blues should be ready to peak three years from now. He doesn't want them to fully hit their straps any earlier. Why?

thanks for that, great article... i completely agree with what he said about developing our young ruck rather than looking for a 'veteran' |

3 of our best players turn 29+ next year. Thats a concern hence why we need to turn over our list and get as many talented kids as possible or we run the chance of becoming the next St kilda, an abundance of top kids but failed to get the support act right |

Good article. Quote: Jarrad Waite has developed as a tall defender and gets fine support from Brett Thornton and Michael Jamison.
And Bower? |

![]() QFT- fair dinkum, Melvey, how can you say you have Carlton's best interests at heart when you are so pessimistic about, what three players turning 29 next year (as a matter of fact, it's only two but who's quibbling!). To me, that's a good sign of a team having maturity at the top end,as well as the bottom end. ![]() ![]() |

How do you turn 29+? What does the + mean? Does it mean 30? Scotland and Stevens turn 29. Fev turns 28. There will be few if any clubs whose oldest player is 29, or as Melvey would put it, 30-. |

Quote: Defensively the Blues have improved out of sight. Last year the average score kicked against them was a whopping 132 points a game. Now it is 104, which is just six points above the average.
This to me is the big improvement in our side, and the most positive line/s from the article !!!!!!!! But I have said MANY times, I think the Cats will win this year and next, the Dawks in 2010 so 2011 and beyond will be the next "Blue Dynasty" !!!!!!!! |

It's hanging on to the likes of Houlihan, Banno, Bentick and Fisher who are not going to get any better and leg speed is not there best asset. Then you throw in a 29 year old Stevo, Scotto and Fev who are passing the peak come 3 years when we will have a crack. The current team is not blessed with speed. No doubt Stevo, Fev and Scotto are in our best 5-10 players. We must hold onto to them, but we got to turn over players now and constantly turn them over to get the mix right. I feel Ratts maybe a little happy to stick with Banno, Houlihan, Bentick and Fisher as they are seasoned players but will those guys help us win a flag?? Everyone thought the Saints with Reiwoldt, Kosi, Ball, Dalsanto, Mcguire and Hayes would lead them to ultimate success but they failed, Why they didn't get the support act right. They slowed up With a compromised draft in 2009, now is the time to turn the list over and get as many kids as possible. I'd say Houlihan will survive the chop but we must move Banno on, see what Fisher is worth at trade and the same goes with bentick. |

ummm well for starters in 2 years time I'm betting Murph, Griggs, Kruise, Gibbs, (Judd of course) Waite, Jammo, Bower, Browne and others will be our best players and Stevo and Scotland will be icing... as to Fev I hope he never has a 92+ goal season again. I want him to kick 60 or so (and think he can for at least 3 and possibly 5 years) and the goals shared through the rest of the team. |

The day Carlton makes a finals appearance I reckon Melvey is going to neck himself... ![]() ...or jump onto TC and try to rationalize how playing finals is a disaster in the making, and it's never going to work, and we need another 15 years down the bottom. Then again, I know that the only reason he posts this bullshit is because people jump at him and scoff about how neagtive he is. It's all about the attention, isn't it Melvs? ![]() |

No chance in hell That's why a decision must be made on these 'list cloggers' whilst we have the opportunity to replace them with earlier draft picks. Im sorry but the likes of Bannister, Wiggo, Fisher and Bentick will not help bring home a 17th premiership. Thank god we actually had some injuries to some senior players that gave us the chance to play Browne, Armfield and Austin. |

I think to many of our supporters have some little love affair going on with some of our players and have deluded thoughts of there playing abilities. take off those rose coloured glasses I will be honest and say i would disappointed if we don't make finals next year. I don't think you realise just how hard it is to win a premiership and if Ratts and co mean business, tough decision have to be made. People bang on about our super midfield and our 3 number one draft pics and all of a sudden there is this expectation on us. Just the like the Saints who failed miserably as they didn't get he support act right. 3 number one draft picks don't win you a premiership buddy. |

I had already seen your point, and without saying so I was already in agreeance that our main concern should be that we don't end up like St Kilda - all potential and expectation, and no delivery on the goods... I don't sugar coat our team and individual players - but I know that a lot do on here and through inflated ideas of different players worth some tend to get defended to the death. Example of this is that as a whole on TC, there are only 2, possibly 3 players who we unanimously agree should be shafted at the end of the year (we know who they are) - different posters will defend the rest, even the lousy ones on basis of potential and the fact that they are wearing navy blue... All I'm really trying to say though is that if almost.every.single.post wasn't so negative in it's prose, other posters would be noticing you making some good points (and i know you make a fair few) - rather that giving you shit for being negative. And the fact that is so constant despite the disdain for other posters, could suggest that this poster backlash is exactly the reason why you do it in the first place. I'd like to be wrong though! |

Honestly mate i do not seek any reaction from anyone. I appreciate the TalkingCarlton site, i run my own business and the industry im in unfortunately AFL is not everyones cup of tea. So its fantastic to have a forum which where i can talk footy cause in my office footy is not mentioned I share a different view to others and can be argumentative, im in the game of problem solving so im forced to almost have a different outlook on things. I cant stand fence sitters or those that sugar coat. I've played football, finished this year as i blew my knee out for a second time. I think most on here who discuss football matters are spectators and have never played the game. There's nothing wrong with that at all, but its a tough sport and things aren't as easy as they seem My thoughts are my thoughts. I don't not seek any backlash or attention Again if people don't like my opinion just avoid it don't read it and move on. |
