Been paying attention to this a lot this year, mostly with our natural right footers. All year Carrazzo, Russell and Fisher have been passing the ball regularly by foot using their left, not to mention the usual suspects Judd, Stevens and Scotland.

On the weekend there were some great goals kicked off the left by Houlihan, Murphy and Fisher. None of them could've kicked their goals with any certainty on their right.

Walker made some nice left foot passes at the Gabba too.

Seems many of our players are confident enough to use their non-preferred when they have to. Definitely a good sign.

Skills are being worked on and improved.

All natural right footers. Show me a left footer that has ever learnt to kick on their right. It is always a flaw in their game. Simpson is a perfect case in point. It's a massive generalisation but left footers are always beautiful kicks on their natural foot. And because they are such good kicks they never bother to learn to kick on their opposite. Us righties always had to learn to kick both feet in juniors.

simpson is a funny one, i can only recall one time where i've seen him stuff up a right foot kick. i've probably seen him use it 20-30 times and just about everytime the kick is spot on but for some reason he is very reluctant to use it and only does so if he can't wheel onto his left. i don't know what it is with lefties but you're right, very few are comfortable on their right, i'm just guessing it just must feel really awkward for them or something.

walker has been really god off his left since the start of last year and scotland is pretty much the same off both. murphy is usually pretty reliable on the left too and gibbs rarely ever uses it, he is almost always able to get his feet into position where he can use his right.

I was a natural left that spent a whole year kicking 90% of balls on my right. Byt the end I had superb disposal on both sides. Unfortunately I was slow as a slug and couldn't kick it over 40 metres.......

I am a left footer and at training when the coach used to get the team to use their opposite foot I still got away with using my left (just had to kick it a bit shorter :-D ) so my right foot was always pretty crap but in a game never really had to use it.

I was also a right handed but because I was left footed everyone assumed I was left-handed the result was I could handball just as well with both hands.

Also agree that Scotto is easily the best kick on his non-preferred.

Agree...if you watch Simmo he has a right foot...just tries to avoid using it.

The famous story on this subject is how Bob Skilton won the World of Sport Champion Kick Award one year; kicking with his right (non preferred) foot.

Each heat (and Final) consisted of stab passing about 25 metres at a roughly 6 foot round target similar to an Archery target; complete with bullseye.

Then there was goalkicking and distance kicks; using both drop kicks and punt kicks.

At the Season end Final......Skilton had an injury to his left leg....so he kicked with his right.....and still won easily.....a freak talent.

I am probably the most natural left-footed payer ever to grace the earth, and that involves never ever using my right foot... I never learned with it, and never wanted to... its for balancing and standing on!!!

When I was a kid my dad would make me kick right footed in the backyard, get out to games... straight onto my left foot everytime... it didnt help that im right-handed, so therefore if i was caught out, a raking handball would always suffice. :-D

Skilton would use Bruce Andrew's part in his hair to line up his stab kicks.

Gun Barrell Straight.

Yeah.... :-D .....remember Jack Dyer saying about Skilts....."He kicks just as well with either foot; but he's better on his left"........
