Does Ratts have such a feel for the game that he plays with the ebb and flow, holding players back, letting the opposition run themselves into the ground, trying to stem their damage before unleashing ours?

Nice analogy there.

Nice tactic too, from "Roll The Dice" Ratten.

We'll call it the "Cassius Clay" defence.

Hey db, I was actually thinking that myself last night.

He almost seems to allow teams to knock themselves out in a quarter, while we sit back and do anything  and then BANG, the boys crank it up and go SMASH.

No.

Until he bans Jarrod Waite from kicking out from full back he understands very little.

When I played basketball I used to frustrate my teammates because I was constantly "playing loose" in defence yet managed the most steals. I just figured that if I left an opening it wasn't really an opening if I knew it was there and expected that my opponent would try to take it. It wasn't that successful against the really smart players though, they'd still beat me.

While it's a pretty intriguing idea I doubt that Ratten would be playing similar games with Carlton's opponents, relying on a fast finish is just too fraught with danger.

so many people credit Justin Cordy for our last quarter blitz's but Brett ratten should claim all the credit with his game plan. The first quarter we run our little arse's off then the 2nd and 3rd we come to a complete stop and teams smash us but this is where he earns his money. His instructions help save our legs for the 4th quarter come back.

i find it worrying that we let teams get away the easily.

we just don't run hard enough enough in the first 3 quarters

It`s a good question. Not sure Ratts would be that happy with the size of leads sides are getting against us however there seems to be a willingness to try to absorb their best with the knowledge of the last qrt onslaught. When we get on that roll its the most exhilarating football in the comp and a real glimpse of what lies ahead.

My thoughts exactly.

Your supposed to unleash hell BEFORE the game finishes, not with 30 seconds to go.

And peterg - what on Earth does "ZLOTT" mean?

Sounds menacing...

Holy Nappy-Wearers, DUC! ;) Those kids don't understand what they've missed....

(Although explaining to my daughter why there's a Batman she CAN watch - PURE WEST - and one she can't was particularly fun! )
