The Marngrook Footy show.On Channel 31 , 8-30 pm Thursday evenings.A great little footy show with an indigineous theme. They always have fascinating guests.Tonights guest was none other than the mighty No5 Syd Jackson.Syd was a typical fascinating guest.Syd was all class as a player, and to his great credit,is all class off it. Apart from Syds great footy prowess, off the field he to this day is always beautifully groomed and immacutlly dressed.Syo always looks as though he has just walked out of a magazine shoot.Spoke glowingly of The Carlton Football Club and its huge and continual influence on his life.Watching Syd tonight made me realize what a rich and deep history our club has.One of the all time greats of this club.

Syd is a class act and you see him at many club functions including the AGM every year.

Not many players attent the AGM but it is important because it is where life members of the club are announced.

Anyone who is a past player and attends AGM's is a true part of the club.

In terms of the show, the MarnGrook Footy Show is the best footy show by a mile. It reminds me of the old world of sport days, just good honest footy discussion.

An absolute marvel was Syd. A true pioneer for the indigenous population & I for one salute him & CFC.

I was at the WA Supporters Group function at the Odin last week and a few of the guys were talking about a function last year where Syd rocked up just near the end of the game on TV and had a chat to all the fans - he'd turned up knowing it was a Carlton haunt. Great stuff to see, especially when getting any of the WA players attention is a bit difficult.

Syd was a fantastic player for Carlton- weaved through the traffic beautifully and used that pace to advantage -played well in finals SYDr - a real testament to his people and a great symbol of why we support a GREAT CLUB

i got introduced to syd, at half time at the last game at Princes, after TC's bluey 95 introduced me, i was bloody gobsmacked.

he's a nice bloke, and had no issues at all shaking my hand and having a chat, even though i clearly would have been to young to see him play in the flesh. i asked him what he thought of eddie betts (who was in his first season) and he said he needed to pull his bloody finger out.

he really was a pioneer for indigenous player back then, imagine all the stuff he had to deal with. and man what a player!
he was like a jack russell terrier the way he just seemed to bounce around the place.

Great player. Great show.

Annoys me how media references to indigenous players seem to exclude Syd in their discussion. You hear about Wanganeen, Cable, etc but not so much the great No. 5

They forget the early pioneers -Pastor Doug Nicholls Syd Polly etc usually begin with cable or the krakouers or long - there was a rich line of aboriginal players well before each of them - all didit very tough in a less than enlightened environment of VFL footy
