At half time today we apparently had 38 i50's. According to Footy Wire we had something like 72 to full time. Geelong lead the comp in this area with an average of 55 odd per game, so todays amount was high. I remember Pickering mentioning the word "record" in relation to our i50's today & wondered. Does anyone know what the record for i50's is for a game (since stats have been kept) & if so, which game & what score? Also, today we had 42 scoring shots from 72 entries = 58.3% we scored from our entries into fwd50. From that 58% our accuracy was 42.9%. Not good numbers at all & without looking at the season overall I would venture to say our numbers would not be good in both these areas, which indicates a TREND which needs to be addressed if we want to get back to being one of the "big boys" of the competition again. Don't want to be too critical after such a good win, but improvement is required. |

i just had a bit of a rant on the matchday thread. just did a bit of research and before today we were actually the 4th most accurate side in the comp according to pro-stats. we sat on 54% behind only Essendon* (58.2%) richmond (57%) and the bulldogs (56.5%). It still seems like we miss far too many easy shots at goal. and i maintain that our poor kicking for goal cost us games against St.Kilda who should have been buried by 1/4 time and against Adelaide 3.6 in the last 1/4 to go down by 8 points. |

There's no doubt poor finishing/skills has cost us games this year. No doubt the coaching panel is addressing that. That said, today, we were so much on top that we butchered options that should not have been even close being stuffed up. A few times we just run around in circles trying to share the ball on thr 50m line and stuff it up, and a few times we had three talls inside the 50 all trying to mark the same ball. A bit of talk and teamwork there and we'd have kicked at least 3 or 4 more goals. In a sense we were lucky Port was so crap today. It allowed us to get away with some pretty dodgy finishing. ![]() |
