So last night while the Blues were celebrating on the field after another brilliant come from behind win, townsy Jnr (who is 2) was under a doona watching on the couch. I thought I would go and grab his Carlton jumper which was given to me when he was born and give it to him to see if there would be a reaction. After a couple of seconds he recognised that it was the same as what they were wearing on the TV which was the source of daddy's joy at the time. That was it. He had it put on for him, slept in it and went to day care wearing it as well.

Got him.

Not that he really had a choice in the matter...

Spot on , I can't figure it out at Aauskick etc when parents come up to me and say "Little Johnny goes for {Insert rediculous team here} "

My answer is always the same "Really? - Where does he live?"


Actually it's even more serious, it's part of this modern crap culture of "Oh we must let the children make theior own decisions and support them in the decisions they make"...

a guy I know is a crazy geelong supporter, his son who is about 5 barracks for Port.

I think it is just soft to even offer an excuse.

If they try and go for someone else they won't go to any games on my watch nor will they be able to get any club merchandise

My wife was watching Domestic Blitz in the family room with my daughters

Without ecouragement my 5 year old son was coming into the front where I had the game on getting score updates and relaying them every couple of minutes.

His excitement relaying each goal in the last had me bursting with pride just as much the result

I've had a few people shocked that our kids won't have a choice, because, of all things, it's 'undemocratic'. Balls to that, I say. We're following the Singapore method of 'benevolent dictatorship'.

well if the father and son rule applied to me, i would been supporting Collingwood...

my father came close to it as when i was kid growing up in Hobart watching the tfl(as it was known back then) i supported the Glenorchy magpies and unfortunately they had the some guernsy as collingwood...

at the time i was growing up tfl didnt have a team that had the cfc logo on it accept if i went into a lower league which was lindasfarne footbal clubl club which was light blue and cfc logo


arrrgh well my dad had to grin and bare it as i wore my blues jumper,scarf beanie and what ever else i could muster with blues on it when we went to watch the glenorchy magpies and when we watch carlton beat collingwood on the tv

I had no choice in the matter, and thank god for that... Norwood in the SANFL and Carlton in the AFL. My dad bought me up proper, I once asked him if I had grown up to support someone else what would of happened, he said I would I have to lok somewhere else to live... and thats fair enough.

I dont remember having a choice, but I only ever wanted to follow the team my Dad did.

We may have had a similar topic before, but I'd be interested to hear from people like townsy and Oz who follow someone different to their family on how that came about, whether it was influence from friends at school, a neighbour or you were just exceptionally bright as a kid

I'm pretty relaxed about most things which might involve any kids of mine, which will happen sooner rather than later.....

But footy team support isn't one of those.

It's Carlton, or get the F&%$ out! Fortunately, MrsKK is a Carlton member, and a convert, having been there, screaming madly for Fev when we beat Collingwood in round 4.

I signed both my nieces up the days that they were born, one of my siblings better do the same for my bub.
