Just how good could Cameron Cloke be, as a forward? Remember, he hasn't hit the magical 50-70 game mark yet, that we hear so often coincides with players 'stepping-up'.

Interesting to see The Australian named Cloke BOG for us against the Lions.

The thing about Cloke that excites me, is he can take big marks. We've seen it a number of times this year, too often for it to be a fluke. The ability to take strong (contested) marks is a rare commodity in AFL, and Cam has it in spades it would appear.

Form where I sit, he has played forward a lot more the last couple of weeks, and during this period he has kicked 6 gls. If we extrapolate that avg of 3 a game over 22 rounds, he's good for 60 odd gls/year. Even if that's being optimistic, 40-50 would be more than handy seeing as his brother has only bagged 36 this year.

So how good do we think Cloke could be as a forward?

I've been thinking for quite a while Clokey could make quite a good center half forward. He can take strong pack marks, is very tall and is a great set shot.

His downside is that is not really quick off the mark and is at a disadvantage when the ball hits the deck. If the coaching panel could work out a way to have Cloke and Fev as the 2 main targets with Houla, Betts and Walker handy crum like players all of a sudden I think we have a pretty dangerous forward line.

Bloody computer

Now, lets try that again. I think Cam's a very good CHF but firmly believe he can & will be a gun!

You can't knock him for his effort or committment in a game. If he is to play as a permanant forward the only question mark I have is his lack of agility / leg speed. There are quite a few defenders around who could cope with him as a forward and run him off his feet when rebounding.

Yep, he has the ability, size, attitude, and ''breeding'' to play CHF, and do it very well.

I think Cam could be a very good CHF, perhaps even a gun CHF with a few more games under his belt and more exposure to actually playing in that position. We know he can take a mark and if he doesn't mark it he will at least give us a contest providing opportunities for our crumbers. Defenders will certainly know he's in the contest because he hits packs hard. Will defenders run off him? Maybe, just as they do Brown now. So that in itself isn't a good enough reason not to have him play CHF. Really it then comes down to the rest of our team. Not alot of defenders run off the Geelong forwards as they know the rest of the Geelong team is on the ball and they will get killed on the turnover. Geelong's defenders run off when they are confident they and their team mates have things under control. Give them a forward line that is a handful and defenders will stay closer to home.

I think he would be GOOD at CHF, but not great. He can take a BLOODY good mark and has a decent kick (A LOT better than Fisher), but his handling of the ball once it hits the deck ............... That said, Fisher can't handle a ball once it hits the deck, can mark it but cant kick to save his life (last week was a fluke !!!!!!!) So I would ABSOLUTELY play Cloke over Fisher in the forward line ............ Why are we keeping Fisher around again ??? lol

Come on, he's had a few good games...but really...wat's so bizarre about saying Just OK?

He has a few tools, yeah...and he's shown a bit in a few games...but he's also been here for a year and a few games last year. It's not so strange that people aren't jumping at the "GUN CHF!" option.

he has the ability to do it, only thing is his mobility and be exploited when the ball hits the ground

Cloke is nothing more than a third Tall forward option who can be handy at times but often goes missing or unreliable for a key position, just like Fisher.

he is not the Answer. We need a Second Tall Forward behind Fev or a Genuine CHF.

Because you kick 4 on Jason Roe doesn't mean your a star put him on a decent backman and he will struggle. Handy pinch hit forward/ruck at best.

Could develop into the pack busting, forward foil we need - similar to Earl Spalding.

Smart, fearless, always creates a contest and is one of the best kicks in the team. He'll always need a good preseason to stay effective, but I think pending that, there'll be a spot for him for some time yet. First ruck, CHF, wherever he's needed
