Thinking about this game:

- beating a top 2 team
- at or near the top of their game
- a team who kicked many brilliant goals and had control for certain parts of the game

And then the Blues came out:

- a great turnaround
- thrilling comeback
- awesome and even team performance in the second half
- changes to game plan to go more direct in the second
- with a mix of senior players and young guns

Thinking through our wins since 2001 and many have been last-gasp type wins, generally against poor to mediocre opposition. Our best win for the best part of this decade.

Mods - sorry this is in a thread on its own and not merged with games but with the Blueseum in mind there may be a 'best wins of the 2000's' article like the 1990's one that will need to get put together soon.

The Adelaide win in 2004 (?) when fev turned it around in the last 1/4 comes to mind.

Spot on Molsey,

I'd like Blueman's version... but to me, it seemed like the real signal that we are actually back. We can now beat top teams. Hell, we can even give them a 37 point head start and beat them!

I count the win against Port this year better than this one.

That one was REAL adversity. Hostile crowd, interstate ground, down by 30 points PLUS it was wet.

That win was priceless...

Great game - Fev's 7 and Camporeale BOG.

Crows were 12th and we were 15th.

The 48 crash game against Essendon* was a gem.

But I guess this is the best we've had against a top 4 team for a good 7 or 8 years.

Top three wins this year:

First time over Collingwood
Yesterday
Second time over Collingwood.

We probably played our best footy yesterday, but we were really up against it the first time against the pies.

I reckon it is, considering ladder position of the dogs, it was at the dome where we supposedly cant play, 37 points down halfway through 3rd term.

The Essendon* game last year was big also, but they werent as good as the Dogs.

I think it was our best win of the year, best football weve played in ages in the last quarter and a half

I don't think that we realised quite how bad we were at that stage - and it got a lot worse afterwards

I think for a four quarter effort our win against Collingwood first up was a better performance.

In patches the football we played yesterday was probably better, and against better opposition, but for consistency Collingwood first up was very satisfying.

While the win against Port was terrific, they have proven to be so mentally fragile that I would have it 4th behind yesterday and the two Collingwood games. We also showed plenty of guts against Richmond.

They had half of their side out that day. Anyone would have beaten them.

Yesterdays win was our best win for the year.

Seen alot of what I would call great wins by the Blues over many years as I'm sure all of you have. Any wins a good win but what constitutes a great win?

Comebacks from behind. Dominating wins. Wins when you're down & out with players injured (etc). All great wins without referring to any in particular.

But this win will be hard to beat for mine & i know its still the emotion of the win echoing in my mind, but I believe this win will be the one that, for THIS group, is the turning point where they now have the belief to win against anyone in the competition & that includes Geelong, who for mine are the only team in the comp where teams need to make up ground to catch em, including us. But we aren't far away. If Collingwood can beat em & we can beat them, well.

This also will be the game that the MC will refer back to with this group, when they are down at 3 quarter time, to try & spark a revival. It will be the platform for the future that the MC will use as a blueprint, which like a computer is upgraded every day or week.

For mine, without blowing everything out of proportion, this is a GREAT win & will be remembered for a long long time within the playing group & fans alike, especially me.

Well Ive said we wont make the 8 this year, but Im happy to be wrong on that.

Its really interesting to see if this match is the start of a kind of late season stampede to the 8.

The things that happen at the time when Carlton achieves the impossible are (and Ive mentioned these things on many occasions now)

1. A very close season, with a large number of teams on the same number of wins.

2. Carlton falls into the 8 - by percentage very close to the end of the home and away season.

3. Gibbs is a star performer in this season (which is why I dont think it is 08 when this happens - because Bryce is showing signs - but still developing)

4. We win a string of matches towards the end of the year. - something about our form . gameplan just clicks and falls into place.

5. The young coach we have at that time wins a flag very early in his AFL career.

6. There was s scary war going on that involved oil.. - another reason why maybe its not this year..but then again - things can happen suddenly..

So, Im still going for 10 wins and maybe 11th spot on percentage - but thats the thing about the universe - anythings possible - and sometimes, especially in areas of human activity like football, player's heads might just be screwed on a little better than the next team at just the right time of year, a team plan might just fall into place and get under everyone's radar - then all of a sudden - things shange and you find yourself in a very new and ecciting paradigm...

This is the outcome that Ive been aware of and talked about for 7 tears now.

For most of that time - it was a kind of security blanket to cover us in cold dark period of our history - a very distant hope that things might get better one day.

People needed this - especially while there were people with names like Angwin, Norman, Smorgon and Pagan around the club...

But now, its different - its actually something that is coming quite close to us in time.

Its actually not all that far away from us at all right now is it????

In my line of interest - its a bit like getting a box of photographs - not from the past - but from the future. The catch is that all the photographs show things about the future - or a narrow range of different possible futures (called worldlines) - but they are all undated.

In addition - the photographs arent necessarily like pictures that you might be used to in the normal sense - instead, they are pictures that involve all of the senses - but still undated.

It might be that you get a bunch of photos that are sequential, or maybe there are a few that are sequential - but one isnt - this is what it is like in what I do...

Yep bs - i was there for that one - ratts first game as captain - sos, braddles and kouta last minute withdrawals, the scum supporter next to me accusing lappin of being a alcho. right before he scored his goal from the centre square - fev booting them from every which angle and even simon fletcher taking a great mark and goaling - it was all too good.

Easter thursday night 2001- had the whole weekend to enjoy it including breaky in Lygon street the next day reading wallsie in the age saying how all the people in lygon street would be happy that day - i was!
