We need to get extra serious in the skill department with those who continue to waste scoring opportunities and butcher the ball.

They're killing us.

We must put an extra emphasis on this issue over the coming pre-season if we're to take the next step.

Reports from respected bullant watchers suggest to me that Matty Lappin isn't up to scratch as far as setting examples in the development of the players.

Nathan Buckley is committed to CH7 next year but I'd be surprised if he couldn't committ to a skills coaching role if the price was right.

GET HIM!!

"I don't get out of bed for less than $10,000 a day."

Or in Buck's case

"I don't get out of bed to be a development coach."

Not going to happen.

Even just making the offer would be fun to see how much Eddie would squirm and counter offer in return.

DO IT!

But aside from that, why would Lappin be the one on the block? He certainly didn't lack footy skills and basic on field smarts.

Budzy,

I don't disagree at all with the notion of looking for a development coach better suited to our current needs. But we did make a huge play for Bucks as assistant coach last year and didn't get anywhere. Eddie basically said over my dead body. The same would happen again, and while I would love to stick it up Eddie, I think this one is a bit like flogging a dead horse.

So I don't disagree with your sentiment, but think we may need to look further afield than Nathan Buckley.

We should be looking to put someone on in addition to Lappin and Teague, not as a replacement for either.

Probably the same reaction that Eddie would have had if Nathan told him he was going to Channel 7  Might as well ask.

Buckley would be great for us.

But why would he assist under a coach his age?

It's clear that Buckley will become a senior coach, most likely at collingwood. But if he were to fill out his CV by assistant-coaching, I suspect it'd be under a more experienced coach than ratts.

Not so much an assistant to Ratts, more a specialised area of skills training ... like Cordy and fitness.

We made a big play for Allan Richardson (Development Coach) at Collingwood last year and I hear he is good mates with rats and Swann...I also hear that we will make another big pitch for him at the end of the year....Richardson is regarding as the best development coach in the AFL so well worth pursuing....

Nathan Buckley wouldn't give us the time of day and in any case isin't Diesal Williams doing a part time role at the club....he wasn't that bad with his skilss....

Allan Richardson is highly regarded but I thought I read or heard somewhere recently he is pretty much been stitched up with GC. Could be wrong?

On the Bucks issue if we can get him GREAT. Doubt it. He will be the next coach of Collingwood when Mick retires IMO. Already mapped out for him.
Does his stint in the media for couple of years then when Mick's ready to roll over, in comes Bucks. Eddie's too much of a planner for Bucks to escape him. Who knows Mick may even get the ass this year, because Bucks goes to Eddie & says I've had enuf of this media caper I want Micks job now. Eddie's response - "no worries Luv, seeya Mick".

So if Deisel is currently doing 'skills', what does Lappin do?

Last time I checked Diesal was kicking the ball into Lappin's guts because Lappin was goofing off at training. :-D

We dont nedd Buckley at Carlton.

With Braddles, Diesel and Ratts around I'm sure the expertise is there.

Stick with Carlton people.

Look what happened with Libba. As soon the money dries up out come the knives. Once a dog.......
