I'm a Melbourne-based supporter ... subscribe to Foxtel TV, & apart from the actual games I watch On the Couch, Before the Game, & The Sunday Footy Show ... never The Footy Show ![]() I'm sure Carlton has a media coach, & understand we have a young team who need to work on their on-field performances rather than polishing their repartee. However, as we continue to improve there will be the need for players to equip themselves in TV interviews. I'm not talking a huge profile like Fev, but getting them to the point where they are comfortable enough to banter with the TV hosts rather than just mouthing cliches. Citing Cameron Ling is probably unfair as he seems to be a natural for this kind of thing. Mr Illy thinks we currently have very slim pickings. Over the last year, MarC Murphy is the only one I remember enjoying his experience (Before the Game?... refused entry as he was too young?). Kade Simpson is one of my many favourite players, but he was way out of his league last week on The Sunday Footy Show. Chris Judd was very calculated in his responses recently on On the Couch (& I expected no less). Is it too much to for some of our more exciting players this year like Jarrad Waite & Cameron Cloke to appear? Or do the TV shows not want them? Nick Stevens has been burnt in the media recently & maybe needs to let his recent form speak for itself. Interested to read what you think. |

Andrew Carazzo does a bit of media stuff and does a pretty good job. |

Yeah Carazzo's good. Murphy was on BTG after we'd rolled Essendon* in Rd 3 last year. Was brilliant. Hughsey was raising the desk... I thought Judd was great on On The Couch. Sheahan, Walls, Healy - just in awe of him ![]() |

Thought Bentick was alright and honest on AFL Game Day today, never seen much of him in the media but he did well. |

What's wrong with The Footy Show? Gibbs is a well spoken young man who'll represent the club well in years to come. |

I'll get back to you with my problems re The Footy Show when I have a spare hour or two ... sorry, bit of a sore point for me ![]() Agree that Bryce Gibbs will do our club proud on & off the field in many years to come. |

Just my opinion, but I don't find any humour (cf. Before the Game) or insights (cf. On the Couch) in The Footy Show. I don't want to make enemies, & my dislike isn't as extreme as hers, but thought I'd post this link to an article by Catherine Deveny (The Age, June 2007) ... http://www.theage.com.au/news/tv--radio/bankrupt-orgy-of-male-chauvinism/2007/06/14/1181414462054.html |

All players undergo media training when first recruited to the club. Some players perform better than others in front of the camera and some just prefer to stay out of the limelight. Some are better on radio and some are better on TV. Expectation is that the Captain and VC will perfrom across all media platforms. Players that have marketing built into their contracts will also be expected to be available. Having said all that, the club determines who is made available and who isn't. If IIRC, after our second game against the filth, there was a ban on Fev and Judd to talk to the media by the club. It changes from week to week, game to game. |

I think the club has always reluctantly provided the bare minimum of external media exposure required of them. A very insular club who do what they have to. Love the introduction of CFCTV though. Brilliant. Juddy and Carrotts are very 'cool' and AB was impressive yesterday. |

One of my gripes about the media has been how little coverage Carlton seems to get. Yet you get umpteen pages devoted to Akermanis or St Kilda FC....I would love to see a column inch count at the end of the week as to which club gets the most exposure. Probably Western Bulldogs my bet. Just wait until our baby blues start to fire up....soon the likes to Sheehan and Robinson be clambering to knock on the door at Princes Park. |

I think the Club have been really good with access to players for 'Mike & Dan' bar some notable exclusions - they are getting better with CFCTV and as we win and more players get noticed we will be in the press more. Carrazzo is well spoken and a great interview, but of the younger players if they make it I'd say Hartlett would be great - quite social and jokey but interesting and Edwards, who is more on the blokey side but clearly committed and constantly commenting on the extra work he has to do. |

Love Carrots. Ball magnet and class act on the field ever since his first game, and so professional in everything he does off the field. I'd give Murph the captaincy in a couple of years, but Carrots for VC. |

Just letting you know that we signed this bloke called Chris Judd last summer just in case the news did not get to London. |

Over here in SA, a few days prior to an interstate team arriving 5AA get a player from that club to speak. Usually the get Stevo or Gibbsy due to the connection. The only clubs that refuse to allow a player to speak are St Kilda & Geelong. Had Sticks on the radio the other week after Pratty stepped down. Couldn't understand a word he said, and he started singing "Stand by your man" ![]() The acting Prez ! |
