Fantastic -5 years of pain have delivered us -a platform - led by 3 would be young champions and the best Carlton player since Greg Williams -Chris Judd

They are the future, todays game will do them wonders. All of a sudden we look like we have some depth with a number of players to return.

Along with Judd, Murphy, Gibbs, Krooz, Grigg, Armfield, Browne, Russell were fantastic.

Amazing how they absorbed the pressure. So important to keep playing them and add Austin, Anderson etc as the season goes on.

Gibbs BOG for mine after a manful four quarter effort on C. Cornes.

Must note that in the last quarter Grigg had a hard ball knock on against three Port players that led to a goal because he put his body on the line no questions asked.

Great stuff, imagine if we played like that for four quarters?

Reminded me of a game in mid 1992 - when we beat Hawthorn who were premiers the year before and the headline in the paper on the Monday was "A SLEEPING GIANT AWAKES "- as you will recall we went through a bad patch between 1989- 1991
This and the Collingwood win are in that vein
The 1992 team was a lot more experienced than this one but its got a similar feel about it
Agree about Grigg - took the hit which was crucial - the young ones now know its their turn to take the hits when you have a gun like Judd taking the hits all the time
thought hampson showed flashes tonight also browne continues to impress

You're right Frank the 1992 had a core of sensational senior players:

- Kernahan
- Bradley
- Silvagni
- Williams


This 2008 model is nowhere near that - but you know - I am just as happy.

2008 model not as good as 1992 BUT its a year where the team comes out of the darkness like 1992 and the personnel starts to gell as a team

Moreover a champion like Williams had a supremely influential affect on the team in terms of professionalism toughness and skill - they did have guns like Bradley Kernahan and Silvagni - but Judd has had a similar affect this year on the 2008 team
In the pantheon of Blues stars a lot forget how sensational Greg Williams was and whilst a different player Judd is starting to remind me of Williams in terms of his affect he has on the team

Gibb's disposal was dare I say it Buckleyesque. It was very penetrating and acurate over long distances.

throw in Darren Pfeiffer and you've got yourself a football club.....

lets not forget the efforts of Russell & Grigg (he beat 3 Port players to the ball and tapped it out for a goal) to set up a couple of important goals in the last quarter.

and WAITE who beat Tredrea in the first half (almost could have had 2 goals himself) and then quietened that emo-prick Westhoff in the second half AND kicked a goal.

I can't wait until Walks gets back. A good source suggested that the improvement we have seen in JR under Ratts will also be easily seen in Walker under Ratts.

They expect Walks to really be unleashed in the later part of 2008 and beyond once he gets back up to speed.

Richard Pratt - A Carlton legend.

I certainly haven't forgotten Diesel. I rate him as the best player I have seen in a Carlton jumper. The Kouta of 2000-01 was great, but Diesel did it basically all the time for the 6 years he was at the club, and I believe had a massive impact on us getting up off the canvas after the 89-91 period.

I think Judd is starting to exert a similar level of influence. Different side though, the 92 side had more established champs, this one has the emerging champs.

Also if we got 6 years out of Diesel, barring horrific injuries I see Judd playing another 10 seasons (the great midfielders often go into their mid 30s).

Shouldnt have forgotten Andrew he will be a more than welcome inclusion
In any case everyone knows he is my favourite and has been since his sensational debut against West Coast at PP - A STAR WAS BORN THAT DAY TOO
Agree too that grigg browne russell hampson all important too
