Okay, so I don't know what's happening, but here is this week's. Pigs! ‘Never.’ my dad used to say (actually he didn’t but, you know, this is one way of starting this piece, and starting is half the battle… not so much won as, well as begun), ‘never send a boy to do a man’s job’ (actually what he’d say was, ‘haven’t you finished yet?’ But that’s a whole other universe). So dad would say ‘never send a boy’ ‘when a man will do’ (a tired sigh, eyes looking to the heavens) Something like that… but in this world of AFL 2008 Ahh so there is a point to that ridiculous opening paragraph. There is always a point. Johnno made a point, I remember that. An elbow and Dipper was gone, another flag…I remember that point, the point to each season was a flag. Look it makes it very difficult to follow when you keep interrupting The difficulty is not of my making Huh? That’s what I was thinking with that first paragraph of yours, huh? Shhh, let me think. Please do. I was trying to say that nowadays with the way the draft works, each side has a time when they are men and a time when they are boys. I remember Bomber Thompson mentioning that his boys needed to become men before they would challenge for the flag while the men dominating them would grow old and be replaced by boys against them and now they are men and our boys are not, so of course their men were always going to hammer our boys, especially after what the Magpie men had done to them. This is going well. Can’t follow it? There’s something to follow in that mess? Some supporters are upset with the lads after Saturday night, all I am saying is keep it in perspective. We are young, and Geelong are not. They are hardened, they were angry and they threw us around like rag dolls. Simmo, Bower and the rest of them didn’t stand a chance. So it’s the AFL’s fault. Isn’t everything? I blame the umpires… No, no before umpires are was the bureaucrat; bureaucrats are the real enemy. Because of them we have teams fielding boys against teams fielding men. There really is only one outcome in such a situation. Its not a two horse race, it’s a stallion verses a colt – back the stallion every time I reckon. Unless it’s a bet about who will live the longest. Point is, blame the bureaucrats. So I must blame the bureaucrats for umpires. No, just for miking them. And the head high, I mean you know, we all want the bump to stay. Yep blame the bureaucrats, and maybe television - but that’s a whole other tin of worms. Anyway I was actually not unhappy… So you were happy. No, I never said that, I said I was not unhappy, I expected that loss. Hair-splitting. Are you going into politics by any chance? It’s not as if you can be easy with a loss. Except a pro-tanker. Yes except a pro-tanker, for the rest of us it’s not that we are happy with a loss, just that we expected it. Is that the royal ‘We’? I am simply saying I was just hoping we wouldn’t lose by around a 100 points. That’s been one of the changes this year, an improvement in the kids. This year we lose but we are able to stem the avalanche, and even peg some back. This year is all about improvement. Little steps forward. Speaking of forwards (a sigh) Yes? Cloke did well at CHF. And how about young Armfield, great debut huh? Ahh at last, something we can agree on. Yes I think Clokey might be the CHF we need and I was very happy with the kid’s debut. Can’t wait until he is a man. Well interesting, but he is a bit older, maybe that helped him. Helps your argument you mean. (deliberately ignoring that remark) So this week we take on Port Power. So are they boys or men? Neither, they are from Adelaide. Who do you think will win? If we can stop Motlop and if the lads in the ruck (Aisake or Jacobs in for The Kruise, Clokey remains at CHF permanently this game – please let it be Aisake, I just want him to get a chance, see what happens, what have we got to lose.) can negate their blokes we are in with a real chance. I think we match up well against the Port boys. Freo’s anchor matches up well against Adelaide’s Port if you ask me. Well I am not asking you. I’d maybe bring back Edwards, thought he was stiff to be dropped last week, and Waitey will be back this week. We should have a chance for a win, stay in touch with the eight. Five wins this early would be a fair effort I would have thought. Because (gets it at last) because we are boys still, we’re not yet men. Winning boys. It’s a start. And when we are men. That is then, this is now. Lets just take it one game at a time. This week against Port if the boys can harass and chase and if everyone puts in, does the unselfish act again and again, then I think we are a realistic chance to bring home the bacon. They’re playing for bacon! Figuratively. Like umpiring. Huh? They figure it’s in the back, I figure they are wrong, go figure. Figures. Fev for 4 Gibbs for BOG Go Blues! |

yeah well @#$%&! names...I tried to avoid them, in fact letters in any order is a real struggle at times... but it helped when i could check the website. Part of the problem though is time, but next term I'll have Wednesday arvos off so that should make a hell of a difference! |
