B: Newman Jones Plowman
HB: Docherty Weitering Simpson
C: SPS Cripps Newnes
HF:Charlie McKay Martin
F: Betts McGovern Fisher
R: Kreuzer Walsh Murphy
IC: Ed Gibbons Setterfield Casboult

E:
JSOS
Dow
Cunners
Marchbank
Williams
Stocker
Kennedy
O'Brien

The thing I am loving is the 8 emergencies I can't squeeze in. Lots of pressure on positions.

I could live with JSOS or Cunners for Fisher in the lineup. I think we will get to see the best of what Setterfield and McGovern can bring to the park if they get a full preseason in. Adding Doc (92), Newnes (155), Eddie (316) and Martin (97) certainly increases the skill level and footy experience/smarts. It might not hurt to give Simmo a spell from time to time throughout the year. He is still worth his spot but is he keeping out a fit Stocker, Williams and/or Marchbank.

Always exciting this time of the year. No need to rush any 1st year players in until they are performing solidly at VFL level and building their bodies.

I love that you managed to squeeze Diesel into the emergencies. Kudos.

I see our best 22 lining up as follows:

Docherty Jones Marchbank
Newman Weitering Plowman
SPS Murphy Setterfield
Martin C.Curnow Fisher
McGovern McKay Betts
Kreuzer Cripps Walsh
Dow, Simpson, E.Curnow, Casboult

That leaves our VFL side looking something like this:

B.Silvagni Goddard O'Brien
Newnes Macreadie Williamson
Lang Kennedy Cottrell
Cuningham De Koning Ramsay
Owies J.Silvagni Polson
Pittonet Gibbons Stocker
Philp, ODwyer, Honey, Phillips, Kemp

Overall we've got solid depth on every line - the fact that guys like Kennedy, Cuningham, Stocker, Silvagni and Gibbons aren't guaranteed walk up starts to our best 22 shows that we've invested really well in our recruiting. It's really important now that we keep them all fit and injury free as development in the VFL has been non-existent in recent years, leading us to play guys at AFL level who weren't ready for that level and they've been fed to the wolves and beaten up from time to time.

The most interesting spot in our 22 currently belongs to Casboult - Levi's end of season form was ridiculous, but we're too tall as it is and need to find a solution to our ruck/key fwd mix in 2020.

Those 2 teams you put up are amazing to evaluate.

The oldest team looks better than most teams since and before Judd till way back to 2002.

And, it doesn't include Weitering Walsh McKay JSOS Setterfield SPS OBrien ...

I feel good.

Good night.

Mckay's groin injury is worse than Joe Danihers which has kept him out of the game for a long time. Harry could miss a majority of 2020 is what i've been told.

That's not good news.
May as well add to the bad news ... I heard a surgeon close to op suggests Charlie will take a few months to be fully fit, not 2 months....but at least he will return...

Come on down Levi and Gov.

Create a contest at the very least and leave the groundwork to the 4 Amigos

Gibbons ahead of Jack is interesting for me. Gibbons went well last season in a mostly forward role with time in the midfield. Is he selected as a mid primarily or a forward? I think Jack is more versatile and that's what I like in the I/C.

OK.
I think this is the best team we can put on the park.
Yes, I know, Kreuzer isn't in it but we lose nothing for having Casboult in the ruck but we gain a lot of around the ground possessions and he can play everywhere.
I have gone for a small bench because the team looks tall as selected and we can use the entire bench through the forward line or the midfield and Jack can play tallish as well in defence or attack.
I originally had Plowman for Marchbank but swapped them. As a result Plow plays twos.
Newnes is a bit of a guess but they wouldn't have gone after him to play him in the NBs so I put him ahead of Williamson who also goes to the twos and not the bench.
I was tempted to leave Simmo out but he is a clinch player and deserves a spot just for his gutsy on-field leadership. He will get squeezed out by Willo or SPS at some stage.
I don't expect this team to ever be available and on the park.

B. Marchbank Jones Newman

HB. Doc Weitering Simpson

C. Cunningham SPS Newnes

HF. McGovern C.Curnow Martin

F. Betts McKay Murphy

R. Casboult Cripps Walsh

Bench: Jack Setterfield Fisher Ed

Almost: Dow, Gibbons, Williamson, Plowman, Stocker, Kennedy, Kreuzer.

I like what you've done there BS.

I'd suggest the flipside to Almost is Just in: Newnes and Newman

Kreuzer vs Casboult...anyones guess...Mr K has become leaner and has enjoyed a good preseason, barring the heart business, but Levi can't be left out with his preseason thus far, form last week and 2019 form (refer to BnF). I know he didn't get all those votes playing in the ruck, and he isn't as prevalent following up his own ruckwork as K, but he hurts like Mumford and is a great mark around the ground.

I'm a Marchbank fan too. I don't believe we are too tall when Marchy and Plow play. It is not 1979: they are mobile talls. Marchy is a star and an amazing athletic specimen. He's been criticised for some of the daring kicks he took againstPies last year, but he hadn't played for such a long time. People forget how good he was as a kid, and his weapons.

Williamson's form in the first and only praccy game against opposition suggested this kid is the real deal. If Willo can continue that vein of form in the next games vs Freo and Brizzy ... he's in....and he's got mongrel.

I look forward to seeing an unsociable Carlton in 2020. Take no prisoners.

I also believe Jack and Levi in the side give us flexibility lke no others, in case of injury during the game, and flexibility when we need to shake things up, forward, mid or back. If it was a GF, I'd certainly select both form permitting.

The list is looking great when you look at the Almosts. The addition of Betts, Martin, Newnes, Docherty and Willo make a huge difference in a positive way.

Thanks, Bondi. After I did it, I compared it to Caz's and they are pretty similar. That made me feel better for a start.

I couldn't believe how progressively harder this has become in the past few years, which is exactly what the rebuild was about.

The 'Almosts' will play plenty of footy this year as injury and form demands weekly ins and outs.

I am excited (again) but this time I think we really can jump a couple of ladder positions. The boys actually think they can win now. That makes a hell of a difference when they run out on the ground.

I think given Plowman came third in the BnF last year he'll probably be in our best 22.
