If we could land Lukosious and Walsh or Rankie it would a dream. I'd even think of moving on the Kruezer or whomever else may have value. 2018 top 10 are not hit or miss their all going to be guns. |

Round one: Carlton team Vs Richmond FB: Byrne Jones Simpson HB: Plowman Weitering Marchbank MID: E. Curnow Cripps Petrevski-Seton HF: Lamb C. Curnow Murphy FF: Wright Casboult Pickett FOL: Kreuzer Kennedy Dow INT: McKay Fisher Williamson Macreadie EMER: J. Silvagni, O’Shea and Mullett Notes - Murphy to start forward and Paddy Dow goes into the midfield to get involved straight away - Macreadie playing in a wing/half-forward role which will create an awkward match up given that he’s tall, fast and has beautiful skills and poise. He’s too talented to be playing in the 2’s - Cripps to push forward at stages - Zac Fisher playing more on-ball - Was tossing up between O’Brien and Lamb and decided with Lamb just because he can play that negating forward/pressure forward role better than anyone else in the squad. There might be a team target on Houli? - Plowman to play in Docherty’s role and Simmo and Byrne to control Richmond’s small forwards. Not ready yet to throw Kerridge away - particularly against the tigers. Will wait on JLT but still hopeful he can improve his kicking. I think his ability to work hard and get loads of the ball is such an asset and think his more mature body will mean he has more of an upside to o'brien in the short term. However if his JLT performance, which will be under less pressure, reveals that he still makes too many poor decisions I will endeavour to let go... |

We head into this season with far less clarity than usual re: our best 22. More than just the usual supplementary spots remain competitive. Looking forward to seeing an evolution of our best this season. |

They were brought in cos they cost nothing,, and were better than others who were delisted at the time we brought them to the club. And they've kept their spot on list cos we needed their bigger bodies for one more year while our more talented 18-20 year olds get bigger, stronger and gain more experience. Both will almost certainly be gone come seasons end, unless something amazing happens. Along with Daisy Thomas, Nick Graham. Our list is 1000% better now than 2 years ago. These 4 are the only players who I think get delisted in October. And maybe Simmo retires. Compared to other years when I could name 10+ players who I wanted gone, before season started. SOS & his team are doing a fabulous job. |

Some of those names are just getting to the age where the end comes to most players - Thomas, Rowe, ASOS, are all in their 30s (not to mention Simpson) but of the others you have mentioned only Wright hits 30 before the end of NEXT year, injuries aside it will come down to quality or lack of it for those blokes, not simply Father Time. In my view Wright will only fall to injury or Father Time, he is a class player, the others you can make a good to compelling argument for being short of the class required to take us up the ladder. |

It's always hard to know what 'best 22' actually means. But if we're talking 'current' best 22. On performance (over preseason and first 2 rounds), I'd have Kennedy, Garlett, Mullett and Thomas in our best 22. I probably only expected to say that about Kennedy a month ago. So I guess that's something that's come out of the 2 losses (and the misery of the last game in particular). |
