Jones might end up in there if he continues his rebirth as an attacking defender.
Another BOG yesterday.
Will he end up being Rowe's eventual replacement?

He must be close to a senior callup.
We know he trains the house down and is hard at it.
He has been re-invented as a ruck/defender with what appears to be success, certainly at VFL level.
They can't get rid of him now without looking at him in the seniors.

I find it hard now to work out who misses out in our best defence.

Tall backs: Jones, Marchbank, Weitering, ASOS, Rowe, MacReadie and White.
Smaller defenders: Docherty, Simmo, Plowman, Williamson, Byrne (when he recovers properly from his knee), Sheehan.

Good situation to be in. With Jones career turnaround, I think it's even more likely that Weitering will be a long-term forward.

Agree, really hard. Suddenly we have a surplus of tall defenders. I think ultimately Williamson will go through the midfield, could be a really damaging wingman. Byrne replaces Simpson when he retires. Docherty probably also moves into the midfield. Interesting that you have Plowman as a small defender when he's 6'3, but he does more often play on a smaller forward. His versatility is good that way.

Not sure where Macreadie and White fit in. Both valuable (obviously Macreadie longer term), but I think White has been good this year, and was surprised he was dropped. Just turned 29, so still has some footy in him.

One option is Weitering forward, but personally he looks like a beckman to me, and I'd leave him there and trust that C Curnow, Silvagni x 2, Mackay and maybe Kerr can develop into the tall forwards we need.

Agree with some others who have suggested out backline is a little tall, especially as their may be a trend towards smaller forward lines.

White has a great attitude and he never shirks an issue but his ball use is below AFL standard.

McKay has to make it into the seniors before he can be considered in the best 22.
According to the VFL watchers he is a long way off.
No guarantees he will even make it.

He couldn't be too far off if he just got picked in the extended side.

I believe he will make it.

I also believe it will take a lot longer than we'd hoped.

It wouldn't surprise me if it took until 2019 for him to start having a regular impact on games.

Carlton must be confident as they gave him a 2 years extension on his contract.

Great news for us all but it's a bit early to have him in our best 22 just the same.

He did OK. Could have and should have had two. I think he needs Levi down there as well for a while. Then they need to learn not to fall over each other or injure each other.

R1 next year is going to be very interesting
Lot of changes with development and surprises this year :gift:
Like the look of this developing side
Older players like Simo, Daisy and Rowe I don't think will be in our best side anymore, but good cover for injuries
IMO we need Levi for 1 more year :fight: , but likely he goes elsewhere on a longer term contract or for better coin
I'm very happy with the look of the back six - run, marking ability and good users :thanks:

B. Marchbank Jones Williamson
HB. Byrne Weitering Docherty
C. Murphy Cripps Fisher

I. E Curnow SOS #2 pick (mid) ASOS

Emg: Simo, Plowman, Daisy, Rowe

How quickly things change.

Pickett will be in the first 18 next year.

Yep.

Jones, ASOS and Pickett have been the finds of the year. Not expected.

Samo Fisher Williamson Macreadie have been astute picks

Good year of pick ups.
