Rexy McKay is promising but isn't at Casboults level

In my view whilst sometimes frustrating had a good year in 2017
Is really important in a young team
Will be delighted in 2018 if he goes past casboult but isn't near him at the moment in my view

Casboults level ? ...what is his level ?

The guy that's shopped himself around, twice, with no club interested ?

I can't understand why anyone would want to hold McKay back, given he's not a kid and now into his 3rd season and we want to gel our young team for seasons ahead, for Casboult

Sure McKay might have to wait some more if we had a Nick Riewoldt, but for crying out loud this obsession with playing Casboult is mindboggling.

Agree with Rexy.

Give McKay game time. He is the future and the player with promise. He will not improve in the VFL the way he will in the AFL.

Rexy no obsession my end but remember this time last year you were advocating playing Rowe as a ruckman/forward in front of Casboult because you reckon he was a better ruckman/forward so maybe the obsession is your end but reversed ie too derogatory in respect of the Bolt

Selectors don't seem to see it that way either and list manager once again gave him a 2 year contract
No star but still our best goal kicker last year our best contested mark and regrettably one of our best forwards

Having said all that would be delighted if McKay goes well past him in 2018 and agree if Casboult isn't in our starting forward line because we have other better KPF we are really are becoming a good team

Nice try. It's getting harder now and that's how it should be.

I think Cunningham, Silvagni and Byrne are three there who need to improve to stay in our best 22. Jack in particular needs to get more of the footy. He has a lot of upside as a smart and brave player and is still young but 2018 needs to be a breakout year for him if the team isn't to pass him by.
Garlett is an unknown factor. Probably the right call to leave him out just yet.
Charlie Curnow at CHF? Maybe but I think he will play more as a third tall with stints in the midfield.
If McKay doesn't play CHF next year his development needs to be questioned, his injury notwithstanding. He broke into the team late last year and showed enough to stay there IMO.

I will not be surprised to see Casboult and McKay being played for the reasons both frank and Rexy make.
Both valid.

I don't think Charlie should be played KP despite the fact he played FF, CHF and ruck last year, but he will at times. He's a mobile tall, and he gives us the opportunity to play 2 KP and 4 mobiles players in the forwardline. He provides a classic mismatch, as can Cripps when he plays forward.

I think 1 mobile forward will play high forward and the other will push up to help load up a spare man in defense: a Bolton trait.

I can't see why Garlett wont be in prime condition come round 1, and if he's fully fit, he's in! The first 18.

Casboult and Wright were our leading goal kickers over the last 2 years, yet I think there's plenty of personnel eyeing the positions of these 2 elder statesmen. One is Garlett if played forward. If he plays the Yarran role at HB then Simmo, Willo or Byrne will make way for him. I dont think Byrne and Willo are there to make up numbers.

SOS has made it clear this young squad needs to build chemistry and locked in at Carlton. I dont think he means playing in the Northern Blues. Does anyone think that?

I'm reading and hearing OBrien and Dow can compete at senior level NOW!

FMD. This is better than Judd days and we still haven't picked up our FA.
I like this rebuild more than the last with Judd.

I see Charlie as a Nick Riewoldt type. Mobile key forward with a huge tank and great hands. Hope the coaches play him in that role.

I'd also be giving Kerr a go before Casboult if McKay is injured or out of form.

Is there anyone on our list you wouldn’t play before Casboult?

Well there you go.
I know where you stand.

I'm sure the MC along with SOS, Bolts and the guy at the bar with Kerna have discussed the notion.

I'm sure it would work.
We are entering a Golden Era from where I sit.

SOS has built an amazing list.
Its brand new.
Its built to sustain.

This aint no foolin' around.

It seems the plan is about the soldiers playing the game plan.
One Out a next covers.
Its the Game Plan execution.
I trust Bolts has believe he'll get the next Flag before Clarkson.

Have a look at how many former and current First Rounders we have playing for us.
We look better than GWS...imo

Did someone say we have a FA or 2 to add to this list next year? Sky is the limit.

Any combo of the kids (as they develop) will work Rexy....imo.
I'm just not sure when they will kick in.

Tick Tick Tick....

I look at these teams from a team balance point of view. The names will change throughout the season but the mixture is more important.
I like your team Rexy. My only change would be one less tall in the back 6/7. I would have Jones, Marchbank, Wietering and Plow fight it out for 3 spots. Maybe even 2 if teams follow the Richmond model and play smaller forward lines in order to cover the ground and defend as a team better.

Oldest 22:

Plowman - Jones - O'Shea
Simpson - A. Silvagni - Byrne
Murphy - Cripps - Mullett
Wright - Casboult - Lang
Thomas - Lobbe - Lamb
Kreuzer - Kerridge - E. Curnow

Shaw - Graham - Phillips - ?

Not considered: Docherty (inj) - Rowe (inj)

And yes, our oldest 22 features three 22 year-olds (Byrne, Cripps, Lang).

That post reads like a song Bondi.

Just need a chorus inserted here and there and you’ve got a hit I reckon.

I legitimately thought it was an adapted song, so I didn’t even read it.

The competition for spots is intense as a good list needs to have.

Maybe this is better for the list management thread but to think we have a 1st round and 2 2nd round picks in a very strong 2918 draft this rebuild has been done the right way.

It’s a case of perform or you’re playing Magoos.
