I'm no favorite on this site and be hated even more after this.

I know i might be going over old ground here and i you will say i should forget about it and move on but have we made the most of our demise in regards to trading and priority picks. What would you prefer

Juddy running around in a navy blue jumper or....

our forward setup with Josh Kennedy at CHF, Trent Cotchin and Ryce Palmer on the flanks, Fisher and Betts in the pockets and the big Fev at full forward.

I love Juddy. I understand just how valuable he is on and off field. He sets a standard that this club has never seen before but i cant help thinking we have taken a step back in order to land the Juddsta. We gave away 2 top 10 picks (one being Josh Kennedy) a pick 20.

Right now we could dow with the dynamic duo of the very impressive Palmer and Cotchin running around creating havoc around and along with Josh Kennedy and the big Fev.

They both have there points and without Judds input i doubt we will be sitting on 3 wins this year. Membership wouldn't be up, corporate sponsorship and merchandise wouldn't be on the rise.

I just hope we keep all our draft picks this year or even try and trade for more

If, as you say, Judd is important on and off the field, then it's not logical to argue that we've gone backwards by having him.

I think you underestimate the effect it has on the rest of the team having him here.

In about 4-5 years time people might bring it up but not right now. Melvey you are just a visionary.

How were you going to get Cotchin and Palmer, without having Kruezer??

It is a double handed slap. No Judd and no Krooz.

We can't have Kreuzer and Cotchin.

It would be, in terms of picks taken, Judd vs. Kennedy and Masten and whoever went at 20.

I think it is great we have Judd cause you need a midfield general to lead this side into the future.

I see Kennedy as the most significant loss.

There's no guarantee Gibbs will be the midfield genius we all thought he would be. So without Judd, it would be Murphy getting flogged every week, just like last year. And Stevens won't be around for much longer.

So we need Judd.

We will probably have Pick 5 or 6 this year, so that should be used on a gun forward if possible.

as much as it hurt to trade kennedy and pick 3 - Judd was what we needed at the time.

Long term though it wouldnt surprise if WC got the 'better' deal

It really comes down to Judd + Kruezer v Kennedy + Cotchin + Palmer(+ pick 20) in Melveys eyes.

The problem with Melveys scenario is it ignores our ruck situation and the impact of Kreuzer. Also it assumes Judd's input won't continue to increase.

I am happy with the current situation.

I also wonder if Melvey thinks Hughes did the right thing now in drafting Kenndey ahead of Pendlebury?

Judd is only 24 and he wont fully recover from his groin till back half of this season - he also missed a full pre-season.

Let Murphy, Simpson, Stevens, Gibbs et al - continue to take up the mid-field slack this season - it will only do them further good.

I will reserve judgment till Season 2009.

1) i think josh kennedy will be a great player. But, no-one knows for sure, even though he's been playing for a few years. Judd is a proven genius of the game. He is more than a great player - he is the sort of great player that can drag others up with him. Thompson commented on his influence in "5mins" on the Vic side.

2) Despite the Judd deal, we could still have picked Cotchin but preferred Kruezer. We could only have got one of them.

3) If you think Kennedy is such a big loss, would you be prepared to trade our 1st (or perhaps 2nd) pick with WC to get him back?

4) Judd for pick 3, 4 and 20 is a steal. Odds would suggest that at best, one of the 2 high picks will become a really good player, with pick 20 less than 50% of even becoming a regular senior player. Whereas Judd is spoken of as the perhaps the best midfielder in the last 20 years or more!

I know Dane and no, he's not short; don't know about the school thing; he's not Tasmanian, so the 3rd question is out; and he's probably one of the least bitter dudes I've met.

Before getting all snippy, maybe you should have a good look in the mirror.

we have. it was a topic of discussion over lunch at my brothers house

it was brought up by a non carlton supporter that taking Judd has its positives and negatives. The reason i brought it up was to see if the positives out way the negatives. It's probably is to early to make a call on it and maybe this thread would be more interesting in a few years time.

If the moderators wish to remove it they can.
