It is obvious from last night's game, we are missing a lead up & strong CHF. Fisher is a good forward, but probably a 3rd forward player, not able to hold down the FF or CHF position. I think the trade of Kennedy for Judd (which was the right thing to do), has cost us an emerging CHF. We must focus on getting a quality CHF in the next draft. Don't think Edwards (similar to Fisher) or Hartlette (too injury prone) will stand up. I think O'Halipin & Waite can combine quite well in the backhalf & with Jamison & Walker & Thornton, our back is looking much better and stronger. the most glaring shortage in my opinion is now CHF. Our ruck has been addressed, albeit, it will take a good couple of years for Hampson & Kreuzer to come through. |

a gorilla for the backline please - too many of our tall defenders seem to gravitate towards the loose man in defence role |

I don't think its just about a certain forward position that we are lacking ie CHF, but I think its about lacking options in the forward line itself. Fev really needs a hand and we are 2-3 good forwards short in my book. Looking through what Brisbane did last night - they tried to take our support forwards out of the game with key players from their side - Patfull beat Fisher and Brisbane put McGrath in the last line to take out Betts. If you can hold Fev to a few, where can Carlton possibly win from? We may all have different views of some players, but for large tracts of last night our half forward line was Wiggins, Russell and Fisher, and whilst they were all busy enough (in their own way) we were not going to win with that. We are crying out for Hartlett or Edwards or anyone else to be able to play well up forward. Also to me highlights how poor the Ackland decision was. Hampson is a nice strong mark for his size and we needed someone to break up the match-ups our way. |

I'd be happy having Setanta, Jamo, Thornton, Bower, Browne in our back half. We'll kill Fisher if we keep playing him as a second tall. As a 3rd tall he's in his element and suddenly a tough match-up. Waite would take that preesure off Fisher and make life alot easier for Fev as well. I too am happy too with the rucks although they will be a couple of years as you said. We have to be patient there.

We've got a star CHF in development already, but he's not ready yet and has been forced to play ruck most of the time. Cloke is a good call. Good mark, great competitor, and can kick a bomb if needed. Hartlett could've been this guy, but hope for him fades by the day. |

Our forward line is one dimensional. Last night again the opposition defenders left their opponents to get in front of Fevola, yet we still kicked it to Fevola with 3 on him. Brisbane's pressure on our midfield was terrific, forcing us to cough the ball up. However we also turned it over because time and time again Scotland or another midfielder had the ball at HB, they look up and there is @#$%&! all to kick to. How can you win games when you don't have a link from HB to HF? I know most have written Hartlett off because of injuries but have a look at the first qtr against Adelaide to see how much better we looked. Brisbane have Bradshaw and Brown so it is harder for defenders to zone off to get in front of Brown without Bradshaw being used by the midfielders. We don't have any other key/tall forward option who commands opposition attention, so they can simply leave their man and get in Fevola's way. With Fevola playing deep in the forward line there is no one further up the ground. In terms of drafting a CHF, do we overlook a potentially better midfielder/flanker/defender/ruck to draft a CHF or wait till later rounds? |

Why hasn`t the club sent Hartlett to the hamstring specialist in Germany like Geelong did with Rooke and Richmond have done with Coghlan? Its been a problem with him from day 1 at the club and we should have addressed it by now especially after the Kennedy trade.

We are still too Fev concious! How many times did we have 1-2 players unmannned in the forward line and we repeatedly went to 3 men on him>?! I counted 5 times atleast an there were players 25 metres free! How many times did we butcher the going into the forward line? We missed very easy set shots however Brisbane pretty much hitting everything inside 50 before the last qtr! We need to utilize everyone in the forward line not just Fev! |

Pick the best available player. ![]() We still need another line breaking midfielder and first dibs midfielder after they smashed us in the clearances and with their run and carry. Gibbs should move into the middle in the next year and Walker will return, but I hope we don't overlook a gun in and under midfielder who would complement Judd, Murphy, Stevens and Gibbs. A player similar to Bartel would be perfect. |

Was probably a rhetorical question. ![]() There have been a few posts saying we should draft a CHF with our first pick no matter what when it could mean we miss out on a more talented player. |

Obviously it is always going to be why this and why that? I thought we should have trumped the bulldogs and grabbed Scott Welsh in the PSD just to give us another option. Jamo, Thornton, OHailpin, and Bower can do a job down back, we just need to make opposition defences more accountible, and we don't. Fevola, Waite, Fisher and a Welsh would give them somehting to think about. Any SANFL, WAFL, or VFL options worth looking at? Left Field Would we be prepared to trade to get Scott Lucas to the club, might fill in three years, and you never know ![]() |
