Needs to be adressed

See how the hack goes this Sat night but on previous form I expect jamie to give him a bath

IMO the MC need to promote Jacobs and play him in tandem with Hampson.

Both play around 50% of game time so its not taxing on their young bodies

Hampson has enormous potential
Jacobs has improved out of sight and its a pity he was injured.

The ruckman situation is our biggest weakness.
It probably wont be solved with Ackland's return

Hawthorn have shown faith in Taylor and Campbell and its now paying dividends.

Jacobs and Hampson need to play together to build a relationship.

THe MC need to do this now.

Disappointed that Ackland is playing but give him one more chance particularly as the Burger isnt playing apparently.

Cloke has been terrifc
Carlos has tried hard but

We need 2 specialist ruckman no matter how young or inexperienced.

Watch last years prelim between the Cats and the Scum

Ottens won them the game

Both Hampson and Jacobs need to be given opportunities to show if they can aspire similar heights

And IMO Kreuzer will not be a tap ruckman rather a running follower
and Aisake if he pulls his finger out a winger or flanker.

The Hampson / Jacobs duo looks to be the best future prospect at present.

Cloke will be a vital player until these boys are developed enough. After that he might struggle to find a spot in what will be quite a tall team.

Kreuzer will be a gun and may be an option in several positions once he develops. I still wouldn't write him off as a ruckman. He does have that ability to rove effectively to his own taps.

Ackland has to be gorn. He might be in for a few weeks now but only some very hot form will save him from the end of year cull surely. He'd be well aware of that.

Both of the O hAilpins can contest the ruck if needed and it is part of the flexibility that they offer. But I agree with others that they are more needed or better suited in other positions unless there is an injury during a game.

If Jacobs continues to improve (and he has been improving consistently) he will surely be promoted to the senior list at the end of year, with Ackland most likely delisted to make way for him.

At least there is healthy competition for the job against Sandilands next week. :-D

We are addressing it. Just because we haven't recruiited a ready made ruckman doesn't mean we haven't recruited to fill the position. Between Kruezer, Hampson, Jacobs and Aisake we'll find ourselves with a quality ruckman eventually, but these things take time and patience.

In all honesty, it's the first match Ackland will play this year if selected - give the guy a chance to redeem himself.

I'm not a fan of his at all - but Carlton has turned a new leaf this year it seems - make Ackland has as well.

I'll reserve judgement until AT LEAST the end of this weeks match.

Best case scenario, he fires and and plays his first decent game in the Navy Blue.

Worst case scenario, we'll see him run around in the Ants for the rest of the year until he gets taken to the scrapheap...

I'm prepared to wait a week of two to find out what will happen.

Good luck Ackland - by god you need it mate.

With cloke out, I'm happy to see Ackland in this week. Agree he probably will be cut at end of season the way things look now, but thats 4 or 5 months away. We are giving plenty of our young guys a go, and they need some grunt and experience to help them develop. Ackland should give us that this week. Hammer, Jacobs & Aisake have plenty of time, and Hammer & Jacobs especially are way underdone, with not much game time between them . Both coming back from injuries. In a top 4 side they would spend most of the year in the twos. When Cloke comes back will be the time to bring Hammer in to play 2nd string. Would also like to see Aisake get a chance soon as a 2nd string ruckman to show what his future might be. If he doesn't play AFL soon there probably won't be a future for him.

It does concern me a little when I hear Ratts say that we are not being hurt in the ruck that much......from the highlights I have seen we have been smashed in a couple of games....including last week. Yes we won but I don't think it's sustainable that we will always take control of stopages without a competitive ruck unit.

We just have to fast track Hampson asap!!!

Give Ackland a chance I reckon. It will be interesting to see how he performs playing for Ratts. Apparently he and Denis did not see eye-to-eye at all. In fact I hear on good authority that DP didn't even talk to Ackland last year. Agree with Melvey - let Ackland take the battering whilst Hampo and Kreuz develop. You never know boys, Cain could suprise us all Sat night

At the start of the season everyone knew we were behind in the rucks. So why is any of this news? It is just like what will happen in the post game discussion on sunday. I'll be logging back on and there'll be posters who at the start of the year said we would get smashed in the rucks complaining that we got smashed in the rucks.

So go back to your feelings at the start of the year and look at Saturday's night through those expectations. I reckon the general feeling was:

Ackland = rubbish
Hampson = developing
Aisake = Irish
Kreuzer = 1st year
Cloke = short trier
Jacobs = rookie

So where's the news that our rucking division is a work in progress? People will still moan that Charman will chew us up on Saturday night though.

Ruck is our biggest short term problem, but it's not a long term issue. Long term - we've got the solution already in Hammo and Kreuz

Our biggest long term issue is our forward line, which is a 1 man show (Fev) plus the odd cameo from Fish.

Standing between Carlton and a premiership is a gun CHF and another quality tall forward.

In 2-3 years our midfield, ruck and backline will be A grade. Forward line is the massive long term concern.

Absolutely. I struggle with people's ability to understand the concept of patience. :lol:

I know we all want immediate success, but the fact is, for the most part, our ruck stocks have been addressed in the recruitment of Kreuzer, Hampson, and to a lesser degree Jacobs.

It won't happen overnight, but it will happen.

Agree...I would have promted Jacobs ahead of Ellard and had him rucking with Hampson and be playing Kruezer at CHF having the odd run on the ball..
Playing Ackland is a waste of good development time for Hampson and Jacobs...

Agree. Harts is a hammy waiting to happen, and Jake sadly has gone AWOL. Gee, J Brown would be nice 8)
