Im sick of hearing this crap that Stevens doesnt play for the jumper.

Between angry Blues fans, stupid Port fans, and even my own DAD, who claim Stevens plays for himself and not for CARLTON.

HACHOOOO, sorry im alergic to bullshit, yeh, a guy who misses his bro's wedding day to play in a meaningless competition, yeh hes thinking about himself, a guy who is constantly the best man on the field, win, lose or draw, yeh he only thinks about himself. Himself is the last thing he thinks about.

Styles, when we're doing crap, the good suddenly become the bad or the ugly.
That's the nature of fair-weather fans..how easily we forget.

yeh thats true, but there is a million people at Carlton you would put before Stevens when talking about playing for the jumper, but hes the only one that ever cops it, what about Norman, like he gives a crap about the jumper, he is at Spy Lounge every weekend, i see him with my own eyes.

That's probably the reason he played so well against Box Hill Dawks :?

From a person who only sees the game from afar by TV, Stevens appears to be the ultimate team man. He seems to be much more focussed on delivering passes to forwards rather that having shots for goal himself. if he was playing for himself he would be much more goal hungary, ala K Bartlett.

He also seems to be the player who rallys his team mates and encourages them when it gets tough. Maybe what I see on telly is not the complete picture, but the impression is that he is a real leader who puts the team first.

While I respect your opinion and your right to express it, I have made a small edit on your post. I'm not agreeing with or denying what you claim you have seen, I'm just bringing your post a little bit behind the line. This is a public forum and all of us need to be mindful of that when posting.

Just curious - where is all this criticism of stevens? I certainly havent seen excessive criticism of stevens on these boards. If anything, he tends to be one of those players that escape a lot of scrutiny.

He doesnt cop nowhere near as much as other players on the list (aside from port supporters which is to be expected). Aside from that, I think your being over protective.

I call it the $500 000 curse ie in some fans eyes if you earn more than $500 000 then you are automatically playing for yourself and not the jumper, if you less than $500 000 then you are a hack who does not have th right to wear the jumper.

Have to agree with Chicken - haven't seen much criticism of Stevens.

I would have no hesitation in naming him the next captain on what we've seen thus far. No doubt about his character in my opinion.
