Now that the back 6 is looking so settled, where do we play him?

I'm very happy with a backline nucleus of Bower, Jamo, T-Bird, Waite, Banno , Carrots, Scotland and Carlos (occasionally). I also now see Browney and Carrots as being "interchangable" in our 18, depending on match-ups. If one starts in the middle, one goes back etc.

Bower and Banno have developed so well this yr, why not play Tex as a "roaming" forward a la Murphy? He may need a few more kicking lessons, but.... His intensity, tackling, pace, strength and marking is nightmare stuff for any coach and a godsend for our list struggling for forward options.

Playing him as a forward may be easier on his body, too, at least whilst his shoulders are so fragile.

Thoughts?

What a luxury to have...where do we fit Tex?

One thing that's apparent from those you list for the backline is the flexibility these players give us: Waite, Carlos, Banno, Scotland, Carrazzo, Browne and Tex are very versatile players.

We could even throgh Thornton or Waite forward to pinch hit with Carlos easily replacing them in any tall position in the backline.

Back to Tex.

I did have him as a midfielder in my best team for 2008 to add pace, but having seen the negative effect the over use of our sideways game has had I would have Tex at HB. That is unless our defenders run the lines more as the year progresses.

The positive effect Bower had on the team, running the straight line and taking the opposition on (resulting in a goal in the last Q last week), not only changed the momentum of he game but instilled a bit of confidence to take on the big boys; it's a mindset change to not doubt our ability to run and carry. I think Tex would add some run along with Scotto and Bower...and that's where it all starts; set up from HB, move through the wings and deliver into the forward 50.

Tex as a forward would be awesome. He's a better runner than Murphy of the Doggies, and I believe, not only will he kick goals, but with familiarity in that sort of role, he will get better for it.

It'll be amazing what difference one player will make to this team.

Bring on the Tex man.

Not sure about being a Murphy? To me could be a Ryan Griffen type.

Like to see him on the ball and pushing forward. Mind you could be an excellent defender as well.

Do we know how long he has to go?

Nah, very happy with Banno. He's found his calling as a tagger.

Griffen & Murphy have great footy brains to go along with their skill & athleticism.

Unfotunatley, this is one area, that I believe, Tex is defficient & on occasions, lets him down badly.

I'd love to see him on the wing, using his athleticism drifting forward and/or pushing back.

Tex is diciplined enough to shut down his man but the opposition would have a hell of a time curtailing his run.

Hmmmm Simmo on one wing - tex on the other - the stuff dreams are made of.

I like him on the wing running with the footy and maybe the odd defensive job coming off the half back flank..

Dont like him on the fullback line.....

Walker is accountable, agressive, mobile and attacking enough to play hb/midfield/hf as required. Walks will announce himself shortly and I am really annoyed that injury has stopped him so far this year.

Probably off half back at the moment.

100%. Play him on a wing. If we had all options open to us, I would love to see Tex on one wing and Waite on the other. With that sort of athleticism and marking capability, they'd be an easy out coming off the HB line.

Tall, fast, unpredictable, strong in the air...

Or, for more reliability, push Walker onto the wing and let Thornton settle things on Half-back alongside Waite and Bower.

Tex is an attacking footballer. He'll use his pace carry it along the wing, and kick long to the deep forwards. We saw that early last year when he blitzed the first few rounds as an attacking wing / resting forward. He wants to take the game on, and that's to be encouraged.

ON BALL or WING AND PLAY AS AN ON BALLER. his creativity, run, speed, athletiscm great hands etc is wasted when he's given an important opponent in the back half. Jamo does that now and hes tops at it. Let walks kill the opposition, not mind them

Not tagger. He's an attacking player. I think with the talent we have on ball, wing should probably be his place but told to play pretty much as another on baller. I get too excited when I think he'll be back soon. He was just about to take that leap before he got injured and now he will

Goddard will be our Robert Murphy when he signs on with the Blues.

i don't want to see andrew walker play in the backline while we have a team as fit as it is now. he was only put there to enhance his development and as a stop-gap. it's now time for him to step up and have a permanent role in the midfield. he should start off on a wing and be rotated through the guts, his work in traffic is massively underrated. he will be ready to explode once he is put in the midfield.
