Should we be looking forward to some Finals Action?

We are out of the 8 on percentage and our draw is very kind to us. If we have no more injuries and get Walker back into the side soon we are a real chance to sneak in.

Are you all getting excited about this prospect OR do we just play it week by week because we cannot bare to be crushed even more after the pain and hurt we have all suffered?

Caro was on AW today saying how sensational the Tigers have been. Well the Blues are on top of them so how good are we?

Anyway I would like to know what others feel about how September may shape up for our BLUES? What needs to go our way for us to make finals?

Would you rather finish with 4 wins or finish 8th?

Would love to make the finals, but a finish between 9th & 14th is more realistic.

Possibly lower than 14th if Judd or Fev get injured...

This is a development year. A top 8 finish would be a huge surprise and a bonus, but unlikely to happen IMO.

I don't know what's 'kind' about playing six of the top eight teams in the last 8 rounds. Add Brisbane to that list and that makes seven of the likely top eight teams on the run home.

As a benchmark, I would be extremely pleased if we were to dominate Collingwood, Essendon* and Richmond in the return bouts.

A positive showing against Hawthorn, Geelong and the Doggies would be nice as well.... They're not games that I would expect us to win, but it would be nice to see those teams forced to dig into their bag of tricks to beat us.

If we can beat Brisbane and Freo in the next two weeks, then it might give the players a bit of a sniff... but I would be holding back any excitement about going in to that three week 'blockbuster' period at 6-5

We play Geelong, Hawthorn, Sydney, Bulldogs and North Melbourne once.

The run home isn't crash hot, but we could ask for much better than that - after all, we need to play them at least once sooner or later!

I'd love to just go to one finals match, even a losing final - I really don't care.

Just getting into the finals would be belief enough for the players to use it as a platform for 09/10 - both years we should expect to make the finals and the possible opening of our premiership window...

...just scrape in Blues, I don't care - and I don't want any more high draft picks.

:-D

If we keep improving every game like we have so far, I reckon we can kick Colliwobbles & North out of the 8, and make the finals.

Being generous i think we will.

R8 - Beat Brisbane
R9 - Beat Freo
R10 - Lose Geelong
R11 - Lose Port
R12 - Beat Collingwood
R13 - Beat Essendon*
R14 - Beat Richmond
R15 - Beat St Kilda
R16 - Lose Sydney
R17 - Lose Bulldogs
R18 - Lose Adelaide
R19 - Lose Port
R20 - Lose Kangaroos
R21 - Lose Brisbane
R22 - Lose Hawthorn

Thats 9 wins - Maybe we could snag a win v port or the roos at the dome but we could also drop a game against collingwood, Essendon* or richmond - even brisbane at the dome is iffy.

I think 9 wins is generous and thats a horror run home fixture wise

I think we'll end up with 8-12 wins.

If we make the finals, we'll just scrape into 8th, which realistically means we're only making up the numbers in September, but, hey, it's a start!

Focus on 5 wins first, then 8 then finals

5 wins = No tanking threads later on
8 wins = realistic expectation from me
Finals = Excitement

We could beat Port, Kangas and Brisbane in the last few rounds.

There won't be a PP at the top of the draft this year, so the tank could still rear its ugly head.... Why finish 10th (two games out) when you get more reward for finishing 14th?

Winning 8 games could still land us in 14th spot

I'd be stoked with 8-10 wins..

And as long as i see the foundations for success in the team, and the way we go about our footy is positive and we keep developing and growing then i'll be happy!

Let's not get too ahead of ourselves just yet. Theres a real bit of talent in our side atm, but the down side is there are a lot of boys there in that team with little experience, players of the future that we'll be looking to keep developing..

With that inexperience, we may lose a couple we should win, but if we win another 5 or 6 i'll be rapt!

And lets make an assault for the finals next year! :-D

there is no way we will make the finals .. we have too many boys playing for us and they will fade away in the last third of the season

if you look at the teams and think about who we will finish above i cannot see 8 teams we are better than

my prediction is we will finish 11-13 on the ladder above Melb, WC, Essendon* and then maybe's in Fremantle and Richmond

dont get me wrong I will be still be delighted with this result it will be the best result for us since 2001 because we will have done it with a team that will continue to improve next year
