I was thinking about this earlier today.... Whas it when as a 23 odd year old, he began as captain? Or when he was trying to lift Timmy Rienetts, Adrian Bassett and Co?? Was he at his absolute best when When missed the finals during 89 and 92? Or was it in 1995? As a 32 year old? When he was older, possibly not as good as in th early 90's, but getting lace out delivery from Diesel, Kouta, Braddles and co? I ask the older fellas? When was it?? |

I suspect it was between 89-91. he had his greatest impact when playing at CHF and he was in the top 3 players over that time. Was still a great player from 86-88 and from 92-97 though. Led our goalkicking every year at the club, bar his last. |

Sticks never had a bad year - Champion, Superstar, Legend. 1986-1988 & 1992-1995 standout more, probably because of our midfield during those periods. |

If I had to narrow it down to a year I'd nominate 1993. He was larger than life that year. |

Very consistent throughout, only really dropped off in his final year 1997. |

I think 1992/1993 were the two best years of his exceptional career |

Ask Bruce Doull how many times he had 10 kicked on him and you'll have the answer. |

When was it?? Great question. Looking through the career in pure statistical terms shows a remarkable consistency of leadership and goal scoring ability. For pure goals, he managed on or around 4 a game between 1992 and 1995, but remained a focus the entire time. Legend. From the Blueseum http://www.blueseum.org/tiki-index.php? ... S+Kernahan |

Quote: The Blues were not to appear on Grand Final day again for six years, but in the interim, Sticks enhanced his standing as one of football’s elite. He won his second club Best & Fairest in 1989 and his third in 1992, while continuing his unbroken run of club goal-kicking awards. His decision to stay with Carlton bore fruit when the Blues marched into the 1993 Grand Final as warm favourites against a young but talented Essendon*. However, alarm bells were sounded on the eve of the game, when Carlton’s champion centreman Craig Bradley couldn’t recover from a leg injury in time to take his place. This late change unbalanced the Blues, who had no answer to the sheer pace and tenacity of the Bombers. Carlton lost by 44 points, with only one saving grace – the superb, gutsy performance of their captain, who booted seven of Carlton’s thirteen goals.
I think this part is confused between games. Bradley played in the 1993 Grand Final side (I confirmed this in the page on the Grand Final side for that year). He was a late withdrawl from both finals in 1994 though. |

Thanks for that - we have corrected that in the Blueseum. From the Blueseum |
