Post subject: | One Hour Interview with Kouta on SEN Today. |
A very interesting face to face between Kouta and Mark Doran in the SEN Studio today for one hour. They covered everything.....how he and Ang grew up in the Northern Suburbs (Lalor) together; and longed to be Athletes or Footballers. How Kouta's Dad eventually got to love the game he disliked at first....although his Mum never liked it. How Kouta's brother was the one to start the one handed ball pickup, until their local underage Coach told him to cut it out and stop lairising. They talked at length about the 99 Prelim and the excitement.....and how he seemed to go up a notch or two in Finals....he loved them. He denied that he EVER got a Million dollars in any one year....that all of his contracts were back ended thru David Allison (who is very, very ill in FNQ following a car accident)....and that he took a few pay cuts to help the Club....especially when they wanted to bring Nick Stevens into the Club. He admitted that he phoned Denis Pagan after Pagan was fired, and thanked him for everything, and wished him well for the future......and never heard from him from that day on. He said he was a great admirer of Pagan when he was at North; but that his style of play was outmoded and predictable and that Carlton virtually wasted 5 years unfortunately. I think I've covered as much as I think that is of interest although he did have a go at Collo and some of his decisions that he made at the time he was in charge. What is apparent is that Kouta is still a great guy....and a legend of the CFC.....even Collingwood supporters rang thru to congratulate him on a brilliant ball playing career. |

Mark Doran does alot of good interviews with past legends. One of the better shows on SEN. I watched the YouTube highlights of Kouta in the 1999 prelim again. Nobody and I repeat nobody will ever have a better quarter than that ever!! I always thought I'd never get over Kouta's retirement, but then ..... Judd!! |

I don't miss him and it's Princes Park. That spelling error annoys me more than Elliott saying Caaaaaaarlton. We miss leaders such as Spalding, Brown, Kernahan, SOS, Dean, McKay, Sexton and Williams more than Koutoufides. Diesel's words when he presented Browne with his guernsey were priceless and inspiring when he mentioned the history of the number 15 guernsey. Footballers should retire gracefully and hold their tongue ahead of taking shots at people in retirement. Did he plug his book and Gladiators? ![]() ![]() |

In a way I feel a bit sorry for Kouta. He was a mster at his craft for a while, but I just get the feeling his career has been tainted by dollars and deals. I know that's the game these days to an extent, but FFS, Kouta seems to be cashing in in the cheapest possible places. 'Dancing with the B graders' and 'Gladiators'?? His football ability is un-questionable, he just doesn't scream sincerity to me. NB: I have massive respect for him as an athlete and footballer. |

His "No 1" finger thing he does on Gladiators is lame. I miss his football ability from a few years ago. |

There is nothing dishonourable about how he is earning a living. He also owns a restaurant that employs others. Does that scream in-sincere? DWTS and Gladiators are not what I would call brilliant TV, but at least he isn't snorting drugs or glassing a girl. |

I reckon there's much more honourable ways of earning a dollar than going on Gladiators - like importing Russian proistitutes to marry Aussie's and fleece their bank accounts - Just kidding........I'm kidding ![]() Seriously - He can make his dollars how he likes, but to me there's something not quite right about the last stages of his career. Maybe the book thing left a sour taste after all we'd been through. I'm not surprised DP didn't call him back given the circumstances of their relationship ![]() |

Allison's a quadriplegic as reported in the media a little while ago. He may have held us at ransom but to wish someone ill like that is just poor form and indecent. Pretty disappointing. |
