I am starting to think that these sports scientists are not really helping in keeping players on the park.

Last week Ratts mentioned that they have been under heavy training for the last couple weeks to keep the fitness up with the view to keep the boys a bit fresher for rounds 6 & 7. Is this heavy workload the reason for all the injuries that have our guys going down like flies? So far during or imediatly after this ramp up in training we have the following injuries.
Dennis Armfield – Hamstring
Jordan Bannister – Hamstring
Richard Hadley – Groin
Adam Hartlett – Hamstring
Sam Jacobs – Ankle
Jason Saddington – Hamstring
Bret Thornton – Knee
Bryce Gibbs - Back
Cameron Cloke - Knee
Steven Browne - Hamstring
As well as Fev & Judd looking a bit tired against Adelaide.

Is it just me that thinks that there is a link to all this or am I just looking too hard for our poor run of luck in the last couple of weeks.

Had a heavy injury toll same time last year as well

It could be just a case of boys verses men

Maybe it's because for once they are actually being trained like a professional outfit and their groins & hammies aren't used to it.

It's bloody cold too, which is enough to snap a hammy or two or three....

Geez,

c'mon guys. Steve C_7 has asked a pretty fair question, and he's had lame one-liners chucked back at him! I don't know the answer to the question, but perhaps some of our more learned posters might have an idea. Doc Sherrin? River Rodent? And we had somebody on here last year who was a trained physio or something. The question is pretty valid - has the lift of intensity in training likely contributed to these injuries? Is it the fact that the players were never fit enough before which has caused them?

I don't think there's any doubt about it. Most of these guys were there under the Pagan regime, which didn't seem to place a great deal of emphasis on fitness or development, and its been well-documented that Cordy feels only a couple of our players were fit enough for AFL when he arrived. No doubt it's a shock to the system for many, hence our injury problems.

T-bird was because of him getting collected by Carrots who was spun around in the process of laying a tackle and flung into T-bird's knee.
Judd just looked shagged because we had stuff-all bench by half time and we all looked shagged in the last quarter.
All the hammies are a bit of a worry though.

I don't thhink Steve Browne has done a hammy, it was more a precaution as his hammy's were getting tight against Adelaide due to the lack of a bench, and our neccesity.

What has worried me in regards to our training, is training the day before a game...

I don't ever recall ever hearing of anying like that.....

Rest is an integral part of recovery you would think....

My question was not the number of injuries, but the volume over such short time frame. I can't remeber so many players going down with hammys in one week and starting to wonder whether the ramp up is leaving the guys with superficial tears that they can't feel, yet just a routine game is enough to tip it over the edge.

We don't have a great deal of depth in our team, so more than others we can't afford not to have our best players on the ground. I wonder if other teams see an increase in the injury rate during these times of ramped up training?
