Post subject:  The 13th Day Of The 4th Month

The 13th of April 2008 will mark the beginning of the end of the dark days.

Today, for the first time in 6 years we showed that we can be a powerhouse team. We finally showed that we have what it takes. Not so much that we won, but the way we played and the way we won. We finally had an even contribution from nearly all players

Today, we came out of the blocks well, and were challenged late in the first quarter. In previous weeks we would have lost our cool and been over run (ie St Kilda, Richmond game) But today our young side managed to stay composed under pressure in front of a finals like crowd. We finally managed to build a lead and then PROTECT that lead by playing tempo footy and not letting the other side get the ball. Keeping possession of the ball at the right times today meant the Pies couldn't get any momentum, and when their players aren't getting their hands on the ball they struggle to get into the game.

I have not seen us control a game under pressure like we did today since 2001. We built a lead early and held it for FOUR QUARTERS

FOUR QUARTERS!!!!! WHEN WAS THE LAST TIME WE SAW FOUR FREAKIN QUARTERS??

We also finally showed some grunt, some agression. we had the defensive pressure and tackling that I have so badly been longing to see. Bryce Gibbs particularly in the first quarter was inspirational. Seeing him chase a bloke down and put them in the dirt 3 times was so satisfying, and we saw similar pressure all over the field.

So I think our young guys might finally realise how you have to play to win. I'm not saying we are going to rocket up the ladder, but I really believe today was THE turning point. I think somethings clicked. What our boys would have got out of today is flower amazing. Watch them grow with it, it will still be up and down, but after the first 3 games I thought it was going to take us a lot longer to play this kind of footy.

Kudos to Ratts for getting defensive pressure and tackling, tempo footy and protecting a lead, and an even performance into the team in a week.

THE PLAYERS
FEV - BOG. Anyone noticed the change in behaviour and form since being off the grog. Watch out the next 5 years.
Carrazzo is an absolute gun. Brilliant game from him, he was everywhere
Judd, great again, so much composure, seems to have forever to get rid of blah blah blah
Stevens brilliant, only gonna get better with fitness and game time
Murph - I can't think of words to describe what I'm thinking about him, just used it so well today, so creative
Gibbs, awesome, tackling and pressure as I said before
Simmo " " - seems to have a way of winning contests that he shouldn't be ables to win, he was great in a few contested marking situations today.
Hadley - What a pick up. Gonna be a very good player for us for a long time. Strong body. good overhead. Tackles well, great all rounder
Fish was brilliant, so important to our structure, works well with Fev
Phieffer showed some great signs, could improve disposal a little, it will come. He goes in hard and he has nous. A keeper.
Bannister is a part of our team. One of his best games today and my god I would love him to do it every week. Could be very valuable.
Backline was brilliant..
Jamo is an absolute beauty. We have a full back. He has everything
Waite destroyed Rocca, again disposal and decision making not perfect though. Has to be our permanent CHB from now on
Bower - loved his game, also needs slight work on disposal but plenty of time for that
Scotland, Thornton both very good also.
Eddie wasn't like last week but did what he does. Kicked an impossible goal.
Cloke - one of his best games. His disposal was actually good today (I think)
Griggs best game thus far in my opinion
Russell - still a big question mark. Was probably better today than he has been other than one clanger that possibly cost us a goal and then on rebound gave them a goal
Kreuz - we all know whats to come, contests so well at ground level and also some great taps
Ohailpin was good also, so valuable being able to play forward and back and his passion and enthusiasm is great

All in all I think we can base a premiership winning team around this lineup, with walker still to come back.
Well it was a bit of rant but I believe this will be a very significant day in our resurgance.

Great Win, Enjoy it, Soak it in.
GO BLUES

We were awesome today! I LOVE beating the magpies! The highlight of my day was watching all the Collingwood supporters stream out of the MCG... priceless.
We played so well and for the first time in ages we played great, as a team for all four quarters.
Did anybody hear the bitch face on Triple M, asking the boys if our win was purely a result of them playing shit? Pfft, they played shit because we were too good for them, we forced them to make errors.
GO blues!

I would have summed everything up to this - the above post.

This is only the start of a truly amazing journey.

However most people will fail to understand that Carlton is re awakening until we are well advanced into this development cycle.

We will be credited as being a developing side, an aspirant to the middle part of the ladder, but nothing more.

When the reality of what we are about to achieve finally dawns on the masses, many will react with an indignant hatred.

But that will be their problem.

Let's hope today signals the rebirth of the Blues.....it will be quickly forgotten however if we don't back up next week against the Dees.

It wont be a smooth process - but the trend line is what matters.

I disagree. I think regardless of what happens next week, I've seen the signs today that we have what it takes to become a great side. We are not a great side now, but we should quickly become one. Having said that I will be very disappointed if we don't turn up to play next week. Luckily I think the boys would be feeling on top of the world at the moment and will turn up next week with a new level of confidence and give us more of the same. Next week we have a great chance to be 2 - 3. And from there who knows how well we could go.

I think we are in a very similar position to Hawthorn maybe 2 years back, which is a good thing.
