Post subject:  Logical Solution to Clash Strip

There has been much said and written and recently much huff and puff about supposed clashes of colours. It appears to me that no one is thinking outside the square. My understanding is that the AFL claims that the backs of the jumpers confuse players, officials and spectators alike.....Well brainiacs, the solution is pretty simple in my view.

Simply amend the friggin backs and leave our bloody clubs traditional strips the stuff alone. Geez what could be simpler? Every club that is deemed to clash gets a white/light back, but gets to retain their historical front. I can't find a front that seriously clashes. Look at the examples on the left of our traditional NAVY BLUE strip when we play at home and showing what the other mob would wear. Do you see any clashes? :?

Now look at the picture on the right of the other mobs strip when they play at home and see my solution to our Clash Strip. We satisfy all the boffins and the colour blind officials as well as short sighted spectators! The most important aspect of this is that we are the NAVY BLUES!!! 8)

I actually don't mind the current clash strip.
Sorry about that.
Your idea is very well thought out, though and if the purists are unhappy, why not give it a crack.

I like your designs, well done.

While we are on the subject.
Last Sat night's clash with Essendon* we had to wear the insipid white band on our socks ( we were the away team)

Collingwood was the away side against Richmond and did not have to wear the white band.
Anyone know why?

Perhaps AFL knows it can't push Collingwood around, hence it's lack of a clash jumper.

Well done BB on your thoughts and designs.

I would be interested to know just what the players' thoughts are on jumper clashes. Has a survey ever been conducted?

If they are happy with the traditional designs, then leave well enough alone!

If not, then BB might be onto something. Minimal change only, and only when absolutely necessary (which I personally think is never!).

And why did the Swans wear their red shorts at the Gabba? Has the 'white shorts for the away team' concept also been disbandoned?

Very well thought out BB.

I see no clash.

Well done. I concur.

Not again?!

The worst case of players misreading opponents jumpers that I have seen was against Melbourne. In that instance a Melbourne player on the ground fired a handball directly to a Carlton player who was facing him.

The back of the Carlton player's jumper was not in view.

Close, but no cigar.

Can someone please tell me how the colour of our jumper affects us being the Navy Blues. I can't believe how literal people are on this issue. :?

You can always leave the current predominant blue jumper but put a white stripe down the sides or across the front and back. Problem solved. With the white shorts, 2 white stripes down the sides would be alright I reckon

the whole back of the jumper doesnt need to neccessarily be white, like hawthorn just the number panel could be white.

I think BB's effort should be rewarded & the changes immediately implemented.

No need for a clash jumper. We're the ones without the footy... so i'm told.... repeatedly.

Does anyone actually buy these 'clash' jumpers?

That jumper someone (Jarusa?) here did with the monogram enlarged such that the front became more monogram than background had merit.
Can someone post it again?
I can't recall if it used the more modern or the traditional monogram.

Not 100% sure this is the one. Jars will have it for sure, but this one is similar in concept:

Yeah, that's the one - thanks. How would that look with the 1970's style monogram?

I hope we can find a company called "sponsor" to sponsor us then.

Maybe we could use their sponsorship proposal software to propose a sponsorship?

The people making the decisions at the time took the soft option for a clash guernsey and made it pretty much a reverse of the traditional one. No wonder that very few people seem to like it.

Can you ever think of a time before the clash strip when the jumper WASN'T predominantly Navy Blue?

Without a real symbolism (the only team without one) behind us, all we have is our colour - Navy Blue... and this I reckon is why purists believe we should be playing with Navy Blue - and not white, off-white, beige...

We're the Blues, not the bridesmaids. :P

Great effort and well thought out. The AFL can adopt something similar to this. As for a completely different coloured back, I'm not quite sure.

In the NBA All Star Game this year they tried something like this and I thought it was pretty confusing because on one side they're gold and the other is white. For me it took a bit of adjusting, it also didn't help that the other team had silver as their back. Silver and white doesn't look a whole lot different on TV. Have a look at this link if you want to know what I'm talking about.

I think the players would be a little confused. They see one side blue and the other side white, and you would have to say certainly it would go through the players mind.

Look, we all know that the best clash strip option is the one I suggested some years back.

As Slammin' Sam says: You know it makes sense.
