Sydney Swans 18.10 (118) Hawthorn 8.7 (55)
Hawthorn 12.17 (89) Richmond 16.7 (103)
Essendon* 10.17 (77) Hawthorn 11.9 (75)

The first three rounds for Hawthorn in 2005. They ended the season in 14th spot with 5 wins.

In 2006 they came 11th with 9 wins and now they are one of the premiership favourites.

So why don’t you all just relax. We have now collected similar talent to what the Hawks did plus Judd. Things will come along sooner or later, I expect sooner with more wins in the second half of the season then in the first.

Gosh I am sick of all these posters and their silly statements. Hope you don’t spit on certain players and Ratts next week.

PS: Remember the criticism Clarkson faced for his first 2 years - for both results and game plan? Now he is top of the tree.....

Come on. We played a very average side with our best players playing well and got beaten. When I see us being able to run out a game and tackle strongly I will agree with you

Wooosh.............

BTW Hawthorns list has not changed very much since 2005 - those who are key players now were on the list.....

patience is a virtue, I can wait until 2010, but I will not be satisfied with 5 wins this year. I'd be happy for the pattern to play out otherwise.

An intelligent, responsible, considered and relevant post.

We don't get many of those.

The building blocks have been assembled. We still have more cracks in the structure than Hawthorn because we don't have a readily identifiable spine, but this tinkering should occur over the next 2-3 years. We are not going to get worse, so there is only one way to go....

of course you can't get any worse if you are the worst.

feel a bit better this morning

I just have to wait until 2010 before I see us adding pressure to this wonderful headless chook game we play.

Silly thing is, you'd think Geish and his brightly coloured maggots would love the way we play and reward us - after all we hardly touch anyone while we are out there!

Maybe our players are confused by this?

still the kids were fantastic last night (apart from JR)

I like Bower's progress

and Murph and Gibbs.

oh the pain, the pain............

Good post Mikkey.

Last night hurts but we are improving albeit slowly.

One can only be positive when you win. Yes, great to see Judd, Fevola and Betts play well but we have seen three players for carlton play well before and then the bottom 6 players are shitt=house.

Time for some tough decisions to be made:

one observation - do not "zone off" when there is an opportunity to tackle someone. Houlihan - in the last quarter- had the opportunity to tackle someone but decided on "zoning off" so that the player didn't run forward.

that is no good as all he does it give it to someone else.

I would be dropping players who refused to tackle. Tackling should be just as valuable as kicks and marks for a weak-kneed, lilly white prissy team like Carlton.

For all we know we haven't improved at all in the last six years. True positives can only come about with a victory.

The umpiring was just abysmal. Is it still a contact sport or have we officially made football into non=contact sport like soccer or volleyball?

the so called chopping of their forward's arms... never there. just some of the decisions were beyond abysmal.

The so called push out from Fevola of Michael - the umpire signalled he used his hands when he used the side of arm near his elbow - was either a decision made by someone on the take or someone blatantly stupid.

3 rounds in and everyone is shit-canning the team.
WE ARE A YOUNG SIDE.

IT WILL TAKE TIME FOR THE TEAM TO PUT 4 QTRS TOGETHER.

If we have Kruezer directing centre clearances for Carlton for the next 10-15 years like he did last night I will be very happy.

Put a bigger body ie Hartlett, Cloke, O'hailpin at CHF and add some mongruel ie; Jackson, Browne, Armfield, Anderson instead of Russell/Houla and the pressure will ease on the backline.

Lloyd, Lucas, Michael, Fletcher are very young.

Richo, Simmonds, Brown, Bowden, Johnson are even younger.

We should be Hawthorn of 2007 by rights now given how many high draft picks we've had. Those who think we have as promising a list as Hawthorn did in 2005 now are kidding themselves. We might have by next year if we recruit well but we certainly haven't yet.

McVeigh's a 27 year old spring chicken too. He's a week younger than Fevola. Stevens was the only other Carlton player older than him (by a year to the month).

Our most consistent player so far is Murphy.

The players who haven't fired up and played at their best so far are, Scotland, Carrazzo, Simmo and Fisher. We know these guys can play good consistent football, so it's only a matter of time.

Stevens, Judd, Betts, Hadley and Fevola played their best footy for the year.

Cloke has been between decent and very good.

Thornton has had two really good games and then an average one.

Pfeiffer and Jamison shouldn't be too disappointed about their 2 games.

Anyway what all this leads to is that once there is a more balanced effort throughout the team we will deliver something special.

I think that's about right.....

We need to do well out of this upcoming "strong" draft to ensure we are set up long term in regards to depth.......

2009 should be a corker as blokes like Bower are developing well along with Grigg who will get more game time, and so forth...

Throw in a couple of handy recruits hopefully, and we are were we have been waiting to be for quite a while.

think Mikkys post is just cos Hawthorn went a certain way were guaranteed to fiollow exactly the same path....

Thats logical.....

Hawthorn traded aggresively and were very smart in the way they recruited.... their facilities and develpment we advanced.

Ratts is not Clarkson till he achives what Clarkson has achieved.
Our list is not Hawthorns till they achive what HAwthorns has.
Our recruiting a nd footy dept is not Hawthorns till its proven itself...

You just cant say were going to follow Hawthorns lead...

We might be Freo....

We need to prove ourselves at every level...and change what needs to be changed for success...

The rest is just hoping isnt it???
