Does anyone honestly think we could have used Setanta tonight? Perhaps on the resting ruckman, but I would say he would have to be concerned - there wasn't an obvious niche within the team that needed to be filled tonight. I suspect the arrival of Kruze may signal the end of Setanta's guaranteed spot in the firsts

We need his passion.

He could play CHB, free up Waite.

pinch hitting up forward, as good as fev was tonight there were several times he had to go 2 on 1. we had no other consistent target to take a mark.

put it this way, an unfit, half drunk and out of form setanta would have been more use than russell

Yes, it was funny decision retaining Russell ahead of the two outs.

Not sure if there was a good match up for him tonight.

Again........ I have no idea what's behind the "Setanta" issue but:-

Setanta OUT but retain the likes of Russell / Carrazzo and even Hampson who has had 2 shockers in a row says it all.

Setanta to CHB....Waite down forward. Jamison can hold down a full back position.

IF Setanta was dropped for being to "Tall" thus not suited to Ratts gameplan, then Ratts's gameplan is largely to blame for tonights loss. Plain and Simple really.

No wonder the Irishman's pissed................... i'd be flower pissed too when half-assed players who don't give a shit or just arent performing get picked ahead of somebody who puts in 110% on AND off the field.

If he aint in the team next week then i'll be asking serious questions of Ratten...........something i didn't want to do just 4 games into the year!

Outs:-
Russell / Carrazzo / Hampson (needs some confidence)

Ins:-
Setanta / Aisakie / Edwards or Anderson

Throw Setanta down CHB or even CHF and FFS Trust him.

i thought it was a good idea to drop setanta for this week only because of team balance. it also happened to coincide with reports that his attitude hasn't been upto the level expected so it might have beeen good timing. just think what his role would have been had he played tonight. Essendon* only had the 1 key forward in lloyd and jamo managed to do a serviceable effort on him. in the rucks, we had cloke, hammer and kreuze all who are better rucks than setanta. i think we'll bring in setanta next week so he can play on rocca. i think he's our best option when it comes to playing against the gorillas like gehrig, rocca, hall etc. and this makes me a bit bewildered as to why we made him lose weight this year.

Well I thought that Setanta could have allowed Waite to play CHF.
(Essendon* rebounded off our half forward line all night.)

He could have played on the wing, or up on the forward line, or even in the ruck.
He doesn't make too many mistakes now.
There are plenty worse players than him in the team.
Bannister, Scotland, Russell and Carrazzo to name a few.

Whats with the bloody fascination of Setanta??? If he had no Irish links and was taken at pick 20 from the Northern Knights, we'd all be very concerned with him right now.

He's not good enough.

We need to get more run into the team not more height.
We need more dash out of the backline. Blokes like Walker, Armfield, Anderson and Brown are essential to out team becoming complete. They are currently being developed by what i am told is a first class program. When they are ready and getting games in the firsts we will be a far better team.

Setanta is out for team balance. Cloke and he compete for a position going forward.

Disagree............... i couldn't care if he was Jewish, Muslim or a frigen scientologist.

The fact is that he is an Athlete who gives 110%, wants and CRAVES success, will never drop his head or give up and loves this club!

Shit.......... he is EVERYTHING this bloody club NEEDS at the moment. Not to mention that he is has better and more accurate disposal skills than the likes of Russell / Bannister / Hampson & Carrazzo.................all of which played last night and did stuff all.

Setanta plays the big man role better than most in our club; back or forward.

He has a lot to offer this club at senior level.

I would have loved to have Waite in the midfield/ wing pushing forward last night....he could have pinched it for us...but then again, Setanta could have done that too.

Hey Ryan,

IMO Carrazzo has played better this year than:

Russell
Jackson
Simmo
Bannisetr
Hampson
Edwards
Anderson (hasn't done much in the Ants)
Benji (hasn't done mush in the Ants)
Judd (till this week)
Stevens (till this week)

...and many more.

It's a contradiction to want players to replace Carrazzo who haven't dpne much or better than Carrots to earn a position.

Sure Carrazo's kicking annoys me...but he's important in the seniors (rotation, defensive tagger, defensive forward, BP...). There's a role for him there...that's up to Ratts to find the best position during the game.

voted no. There just wasnt a spot in the team for setanta last night - not in the ruck and not in defence. Needs to be played up forward imho though wouldnt be amongst my first few options to bring into the forward line

I think he needed a rest, losing that much weight over the off-season has dented his stamina. A week or two on the sidelines and he'll be ready for another crack.

setanta should play upforward. waite down back is verty god as it adds stability to our defence, but we need another marking option up forward. even if he just brings the ball to the front of the pack, setanta, fev and fisher are 3 good talls. with hampson, kruzer cloke rotating from forward and bench.

If he was playing like he did last year then I think he should be in the side. But he is clearly out of form at the moment and from reports it seems like he is not playing well in the Bullants too, so why rush him back??

The backline seems to play better without Setanta in the side, because very rarely players passes the ball to him, also he is 25 yrs old and still cant read the game properly yet, I think time is against him even with his improvements, hopefully his brother will turns out better, its unfortunately he has that serious injury which must have set him back a bit.

the backline plays better without him??? What are wwe talking here, a one or two goal difference...out of 25???

My problem is that Setanta has never seemed to have that one breakthrough game, where he kicks a bag or gets 25 touches...but i think he can do it, and i dont think 25 is too old in a team of young'uns! Ratten, or someone, just needs to give him confidence! Pity if he didn't know how many people here (TC) support him (albeit with detractors too..fair enough) and his brother..

sure I'd keep him in the side... and agree totally with Ryan2000...atleast he's got mongrel. Who else does???
