Post subject: | Fev's Contract |
player contracts are like a games of cat and mouse ... Synbad reckons Collingwood are after Fev for 650k and might use the PSD. Well Collingwood might not finish last so that will make the PSD draft harder for them to use plus they might change their minds and chase another player hard ... you just don't know until you find the way the cards will fall, at this stage Carlton is small chance of finishing last. However if things get desperate with Fev, the blues and the pies then the club should give give what he wants 600k over four years. I don't think Fev is worth over 500k. But the advantage of doing this is if Fev's form drops off in 2006 and he is not worth 600k to the club then trade him. Since he will be under contract we could offer him at say 450K to the west coast for their first pick and a player such as Kerr .. It will cost us say 150k over three years but it makes sure we will get a fair compensation for Fev if he does not fit in with the clubs plans in the future |

Just to add a little to my first post ...I think an good compensation for Fev to say the West Coast would be their first pick and Ash Hanson... he looks a real prospect (better than Kerr) the above plan Basically protects the club from Fevola going into the pre season draft and getting notihing (if Collingwood finish last at the end of year and chase Fev). |

So let me get this straight. We pay 600K in the first year then three years at 150K. All for one year's Fevola and the prospect of trading him after that. I'll think I'll let Collo do the negotiating thanks... ![]() |

That's the point ... of course I could be wrong... but would a first round pick be and a player of Ash Hanson ability be worth 150K out of six million cap ... I think so ... of course if Fev does the right thing and not think about going in PSD and tells the club that then both parties can negatioate a fair a proper deal fro Fev and carlton... AS Colla said what the market value of players are....and if Fev want too much then he can be traded |

Um... That's 150K ON TOP OF whatever you pay Hanson and the player you pick up with the draft pick. On top of the 600K you've paid for a poor year from Fevola if your scenario turns out to be true. So, 600K + $450K + Hansen's salary (22yo promising KPP changing clubs = $250-300Kp/a over 3 years) + 1st round Draftee's salary ($65K and rising) = around 2.2mill for a crap year of Fev (whose value drops as a result) plus three years of Hansen and a draftee. No thanks. ![]() Players will be offered what they're worth and if they think they're worth more than that then they'll be traded for those who don't want to hold the club to ransom. Elliott's no longer running the show. Fev should be offered $400-450K max with performance bonuses to get him to $500K if he has a stellar year (ie B&F top 3). Collingwood can offer him all they want but you'd have thought they might have learnt from our Koutoufides scenario (obviously not judging by their off for Jonathan Brown) that putting all your eggs in the one basket is a dangerous way to build a side. |

If Collingwood really think that Fev will help them, well, they've learnt nothing about having a crap midfield will not win you games. |

The end of the season can't come quick enough. Then I don't have to read all this bullshit about trading this bloke for that bloke, and he is worth this much etc. etc. This joint actually has a forum for this bullshit so put it in there. |

I can see what you are saying GWS ... you make a good argument! yeah 600k over four years is a bit much for Fev. maybe 550k over four or three years ... once again this is the worse case situation ONLY if Pies finish last and chase Fev. Basically what I am saying is that if we find ourselves in that worse case scenario we should not worry about an extra 50k or even 100k if it stop Fev going in the pre season draft. A team like Geelong would love to get Fev ... they would probably do a straight swap for a player like Kelly. even if we pay 100k of fev's contact at the cats (thats only 1/60 of TPP) and we get a player of quality of Kelly OR we get nothing! BUT forget everything I have just written if Fev tells the club he will never go in the pre season draft. |

fev won't go anywhere unless Pagan wants him to go. Is he worth $500Kpa on past/current performances.................NO. Not even close. $350K-$400K + incentives IMO. Have we not learnt? |

If Fev wants to go to Collingwood for 650K a year then they can have him, we shouldnt get into a bidding war for his services...at this stage of his career he owes us and should be grateful for his opportunities. If Collingwood bottom out and get him for nothing in the PSD then so be it..I guess they wont even have to bottom out..witha 650K ayear price tag no one will touch him anyway so they have him if he wants to go and we get nothing...fine by me if Fev wants it that way... |

As much as I like Fev, there is no way he is even close to that. If he wants that then he is quite welcomed to go to Collingwood, but I want GOOD compensation. That goes for anyone of our so-called "F**king Pre-madonnas. |

ABC what you are proposing is the way a number of clubs did their negotiating about 5 years ago. Gaspar at Richmond is a classic example. The Tigers gave him a huge contract following a great year in 2000? 2001? They regretted it ever since. I know for a fact that they reasoned exactly as you have ie if he has a shit year trade him. Tie him up to a contract and then you have something to trade with. But it doesnt work does it? If the players form drops off for one reason or another- including injuries then you are left with an overpriced asset, that no one wants. the flaw in your reasoning is that if you trade him you end up wearing the amount that you overpaid him. If that is 150k then that has to come out of the sc somewhere. If you end up keeping him then you are still wearing what you overpaid him. Lose lose situation. Better to assess his intrinic value to your team and stick to it. If that is 150k less than the Pies think he is worth- let him go- but make sure we get our pound of flesh from the Pies- draft picks players, 3 way deals, whatever brings value into the deal for Us. Basically at 650k it is all downside and very little upside. Let someone else take the risk. |
