I dunno...

I like how generally quiet the Club has been this week. There seems to be a bit of resolve there. And Ratten's words fill me with a bit of confidence in thsi regard too.

And there's more...

Blues must turn 'defence into attack'

Compared to the club being all over the news in the weeks prior? :-D

Sure beats the Pagan approach - eg. "gee, our boys will really be up against it, they can only really look on in awe at the players St Kilda will put on the park and hope that one day they'll be as good as them"

Are you sure you are a Carlton supporter Melvey? This is one of the rare times where I have seen a positive comment from you...

Just hope that Setanta can SHOW us what he is capable of... and you may want to check your location as I can't find "Brunwick East" in the Melways!

The Saints hey..well, if only we knew where there was a 17 year second generation defensive assistance coach around..I guess if such a person existed, we could really send out an SOS for assistance in controlling their forwards..

A good backline takes time to build, considering Pagan left us at ground zero we'll be waiting 2 or 3 years before we are solid back there.

Take a look how Collingwood play....they are not that blessed with talent or anything special they just work their ar$e off for the club.

Maxwell is a dud talent but gets it done just like Harry O aint anything special or Goldsack.....they just dont stop contesting, running and will take a hit for the team....its about work ethic as much as talent.

Our defence along with the rest of the team needs to up the work rate, take some hits to the body and back up their teammates in contests like Collingwood do...its embarrasing to say they play for the jumper and the culture of the club means more to them than our culture and tradition does. They wont accept being losers......look at their list...it isnt that flash...that defence... the Brown kid at FB, HarryO, Maxwell, Goldsack, Heath Shaw......nothing super about that lot....just goers.....

Brett Ratten should not accept any players hwo wont have a red hot go and who dont chase or lay their body on the line like their life depends on it...no excuses..no exemptions....talent menas nothing if you dont back it up with effort and back your teammates like its a war...Collingwood go to war when they play...we dont...

Agree totally, even their mids do not look any better than our mids on paper but they get the job done.

Good post - I watched the game last night, and as much as we all hate them, they play as a team and really put in 100%. They know their setups in pretty much any scenario (stoppage, centre bounce, rebound, kick-ins, throw ins, etc.). I think Geelong are similar with their team.

I really hope our players can adopt this work ethic and discipline. We have better talent than they have, so the translation of this in our team would yield greater results.

But I don't expect this to happen overnight for us - it will take another year or so, hopefully sooner.

When we have Tex back, our back 6 will be from the likes of Waite, Jamo, Tex, Scotland, T-Bird, Bower, Santy etc - it compares very favourably with Pies back 6 (and a few others in the 8 - see Hawthorn).

Work ethic and selfless acts is the diff, no doubt. Appears we are the only ones who notice!!

If our midfield holds its own, and it should once a few get some games into them, only attitude will stops us from being very competitive against all comers.

exactly, it comes down to work ethic. Collingwood are a classic example of this, throwing their bodies on the line.

Our players are soft simple as that. In defence they all go for the mark instead of trying to spoil and no-one stays down.

If Carlton put a bit more desire into their game, we might be a lot different. Tackling, going in hard one on one for the ball.

This is why we get belted, our players simply dont give a shit. They can sook all they like about losing, but the destiny is in their hands. We have many spectators with the you go and get the ball mentality. They dont play for eachother, instead being hesistant in going for the ball.

This is where I want improvement, am sick of seeing players not go and get the ball.

Make no mistake St Kilda will kill us tonight, as we will shit ourselves especially in defence.

Why oh Why is Pfeiffer not playing, at least he goes in hard. Got a feeling there is more to it than we know. (ie Club not happy with him in training, disciplinary).

Pfeiffer's AFL career currently amounts to a grand total of ZERO games... and because he hasn't cracked our side by the second round, it's because of some off-field issue... with "more to it than we know"???.

Jeez, talk about jumping at shadows
