Judd has his first column in the Sunday Age:

http://www.realfooty.com.au/news/news/we-are-running-out-of-excuses/2008/03/22/1205602735977.html

Quote:
Whether we walk away from 2008 happy with our results will largely depend on how quickly our young players develop into consistent AFL footballers.

Quote:
Young list or not, the good thing about being a current player at Carlton is that we are rapidly starting to run out of excuses. The club has spent a lot of money hiring the best possible fitness staff.

The players have a coach and a game plan in which they believe and, hopefully, by next year we will have facilities the equal of any club.

There will come a time when success will either arrive or a new group of players will need to be brought in to deliver. I say this in a positive manner because one of the main things AFL players crave is to be responsible for their own destiny. As a club, the Blues are moving quickly to handing such responsibility to the playing group.

If this guy is not the prototype of the perfect human being, then I don't know what is. What an article.

When he finishes footy, he'll probably cure cancer.

That said I'm still losing sleep over the state of his groin/fitness on Thurs night

Yes but if we do everything right this year when it does happen (and I reckon if we do things right this year it will only take 3) then we can win three or four in a row.

We've spent every year since 2003 being drilled to play a long kicking game which does not work any more given the way the game is now played. If you had Carey and Jonathan Brown running around your forward line at their peak maybe...maybe. It will take time to adjust to a short possession game plan which requires sharp decision making and pinpoint skills. I think we have the midfielders to do it (Judd, Murphy, Stevens, Gibbs, Simpson). I don't think we have the bookends. Get those and we're set.

You build a game from what you have.....

i can coach a side to a flag if i had our midfield Brown Fev and Rutten...

Are you blokes or real?????... listen to yourselves...

We need eductaion and abit of 'WANT'

So we didn't need Murphy or Gibbs or Judd or Stevens, all we needed was the right coach to drill a gameplan into Livingston, and Blake Campbell, and Trent Hotton, and David Clarke, and Harford...
So you don't think Brown or Rutten will help?

It's a lot easier to build a game from what you have when you have some dam quality. At the moment we have quality midfields but are seriously lacking in the key position department. We sort that out and we can win three or four in a row. We don't and we might pinch one but we won't have the dynasty I think we need and deserve and want to justify all these dam years at the bottom of the ladder. I want three or four premierships in a row so when we look at the darkest period in our history, we see that at the end was one of the most glorious eras this team has ever experienced. We're not going to do that with Hartlett at CHF and a defence of Thornton Waite and Jamison.

So we have the midfield now,why not take advantage and stick Fevola,Kreuser,Waite,Fisher,Edwards all there on the forward line and bring in Benjamin and Asaike Ohailipin learning the game in defence unless we stick one in Full Forward,so Fev knows he doesn't have to be there.

Geelong play on after a mark - what is it ? 50-60% of the time.

I would be surprised if we did it more than 20% of that previous match.
The second quarter we did play on and at the same time goals were scored.

by the way, good article from Judd, but it would seem the levelling out with the draft etc. isn't really working if you look at Carlton's situation.
Still shitte after 6 years. When is enough - enough?

and BO.. Livingston doesnt play for us anylonger... either does Hotton...

We have alist no worse than anyones..... we need momentum ...

To gain momentum you need all players to have the disire of not just to exist but to push the boundaries, break the lines, be desperate and push forward and reverse the pressure. Players like Tbird Grigg Waitey and one or two thers need to break their current boundaries.
We need to be more desperate to push the limits to break through to get the best out of the game plan.
The likes of Pfeiffer Armfield Browne seem 'desperate' types...

We have a lack of serious quality key position players and won't go anywhere until we get them. If you think we will you're all deluding yourselves.

I watched the WC/Bris game last night.

We need a ruckman more than anything. Cox was absolutely sensational & Leuenberger shows heaps of promise.

Hopefully Hampson can become a Cox, but he will take time.
