SydneyBlue's comparison of Fevola to Capper, Lloyd and Richardson has piqued my interest. Unfortunately Capper's detailed stats only go back as far as 1988 so it's harder to compare with him. At the moment I've just decided to focus on Richo.

What I did was compared their goalkicking over their first 142 games, on a 20 game moving average. I averaged their goals from game 1 to 20, followed by games 2 to 21, and so on, right through to Fev's last game at 142.

Due to some quirk of nature, the trends of their highs and lows, and the timing are almost exactly the same as seen on the graph:

As can be seen on the blue line, Fev got off to a much slower start to his career. Indeed in the first three seasons he played no-one figured he would take off as a dominant forward, that is until Pagan arrived. The steep increase in the graph coincides perfectly with the arrival of Pagan (around the 40 game mark).

Likewise the dip after Fevola's initial climb to stardom coincides exactly with the timimg of his groin injury at the end of season 2005.

Towards the end of last year, Fevola's form dipped, he was suspended, and he finally broke down with multiple injuries, all of which hopefully have been rectified in the off-season, but all that can be clearly seen at the end of the graph.

Why his and Richo's fluctuations are so similar is beyound me however.

When Richo runs he shakes his head from side to side like a Grizzly Bear. Other than that I got nothin'.

Hamstring injuries maybe?

Richo got him tonight 5 goals to 2

I thought Fev played a good first half & helped his team. Nothing of note in the second half.
May not be fair to compare him to Richo since he plays under a different set of rules where hands in the back are allowed. Clearly Richo is a Renaissance man and is governed by the constricts which applied in the last decade.

Fev may have only kicked two, but assisted in 2 and ran his guts out chasing in defence.

and cost us a goal with a stupid hit.

hands were terrible tonight - hopefully he was just rusty. If he was plucking them like usual he would have had at least 8 shots on goal

fev is now 77th on the all-time vfl/afl goalkickers list (equal with alec albiston, lloyd hagger, phillip matera) with 389 goals.

You'd think he'd start passing others quite rapidly from now on.....not a bad effort at all.

That Blue line is going to start to head down pretty quickly at this rate

Another couple of games like these first two and I think we can safely say he is Gawn

fev is also on track to break sticks' club record of 738 goals.

fev has 486 goals to his name and at the same age sticks had 363. if fev gets no more injuries, i think it's safe to say he will pass him. but keep in mind sticks had his best seasons from this point onwards as he was moved to full forward, he had bags of 83, 68, 82, 63, 56 and 23. with more finals footy coming up for fev and a midfield that is always improving, he is a real chance to break this record. i think i may have already posted this in the talkingplayers thread but this thread is probably a better fit for it.
