Bombshell turns love Blue

Essendon* lost its heart in the removal of Sheedy, and it lost me.

I have been feted by friends who have welcomed me to join a new tribe. I have decided on Carlton.

I have the membership papers and I'm ready to sign. But there are costs in going to Carlton.

I won't be going to the football with my Essendon* mates. My son is needling me about Judd and the Blues already, and muttering words such as betrayal and turncoat.

I once used to know what Nick Hornby observed in Fever Pitch, his supporter memoir to the Premier League's Arsenal. "There is this powerful sensation of being exactly in the right place at the right time

Once this was when I was in the sea of red and black at the G. I'm now in a new tribe and singing a new song.

And I'm in the right place.

Wow, I don't know what to say about that.

He must've really loved Sheedy.

Soft.

I don't want this idiot's support.

The club you follow is yours for life.

FOR LIFE.

This bloke can flower off and follow netball or some shit if he's that soft.

He should follow the Eagles ... all of their initial suporters are turncoats too.

What a tosser! You can't up and leave your club like some 6 year old! The guy has a family history of supporting Essendon* and it should stay that way...and you certainly just don't desert your club because the coach gets the flick after 27 years...

...struth - I've been following Norwich City since I was an 8 year old (1982) and I'm still with them...it's a hard slog but you find something positive out of each season and move along because the team you support is part of who you are as a person. I don't think Christopher Bantick has worked that out yet and i pity his wife when the Essendon* supporters rock his roof at 3am (with some justification i might add).

Oh well - when that happens and he goes back to the red & black, he'll have something else to write about.

('Melbourne writer and social commentator) ...what a wank.

I'm sort of speechless! While I can accept someone coming to their senses and not following Essendon* anymore, what will happen if we do something we don't like?

If he really wants to help a struggling club then he would be better off joining Nth Melb or Melb who need all the supporters they can get.

Interesting read.

While i agree that you can't turn your back on your team/family, it is a truely unique situation which we will never witness again.

The way Essendon* treated Sheedy was down right distgusting, and while i will never understand what it feels like, i can appreciate that it would make you feel the way he feels.

He really should be angry at those responsible for ousting Sheedy, not the club, and if he feels the need to make a point he should not support them until those responsible have been removed or removed themselves.

My advice to the guy would be go back to your wife..

Yeah......I know a guy who was always a Carlton fanatic until the infamous "Salary Cap" disaster; when he completely blamed John Elliott for "stuffing Carlton"; and started following Geelong!.......

To this day I can't reconcile anyone changing allegiance like that.

I reckon Brittain copped a raw deal from us at the end of 02. He got a reaming because of things way beyond the scope of his control.

Would not have been too many coaches able to survive being the first coach to deliver a wooden spoon to Carlton no matter what the excuses.

The wooden spoon was a huge deal at the time. Many coaches at Carlton have been sacked for less reason that that over the last 144 years.

You certainly have a problem with the Eagles Showbag. I think you meant Dockers Supporters. They were the one's that followed the Eagles and celebrated with gusto their two premierships and then went to the Dockers in 1995.

To my way of thinking you can only be a turncoat, in football terms, if you support one team and then toss them over for another team in the same competition. All the Eagles supporters who took up with them in 1987 were supporters of WAFL teams and many still continue their support of those same teams. (maybe not attending the games as they used to because time and money may prevent that from occuring but by watching the games on TV, contributing to WAFL forums, reading magazines and newspapers and in some instances buying memberships) In fact we support two teams, each in a different competition, much the same way as a supporter of a WAFL team can also support a Melbourne AFL team such as the Blues, for example.

I can never condone what this guy did. You don't chuck your team because of an incident such as that which he says is the reason for abandoning the Bombers. As far as I'm concerned, as much as I loathe Essendon*, they will be better off without the likes of him.

I don't necessarily disagree with you, but Brittain, while I didn't think he was much of a decent coach, fell victim to a combination of a slew of injuries, and internal politics.

Britain could not have gone quick enough in my opinion, but then again who wants my opinion anyway.

Alright you all Sheedy lovers out there, there is still plenty of Members required at Carlton so why don’t you all follow the trend and come on aboard, I’m sure we will reward you all with a Premiership sooner or later, no doubt.

I think it says a lot that Brittan ended up as an assistant coach at Richmond where he was so bad he got the sack there too. When you're getting sacked by Richmond you have problems.

This guy taught English at the school I attended and taught me in Year 9 and Year 11. He was always a pompous little flower that was always full of himself and more worried about how goos he could sound than what he was teaching.

I'm in the don't come to Carlton to camp because as soon as it doesn't suit him he'll be off to someone else!!
