Well, I loved going to games at Princess Park because...

* I don't care about having comfy seats, I'm there to watch my team not to think about my ass .

* I don't need to eat Ravioli or Vol au vents at the footy.

* I don't need a roof when I watch sport, I can do that at home.

* I don't want a family friendly environment at the footy, I loved rubbing shoulders with drunks and psychopaths.

* I loved that other teams feared playing us at OUR ground and we let them know about it.

Docklands is great for the fat cats who need protective glass to shield them from the unwashed masses while stuffing their disgusting fat faces with complimentary grog and fingerfood. No good for "the regular guy".

Sure, I find it hard to face the realities of modern footy and I pine for the "good ol' days" but all you economic rationalists have no soul. YOU KNOW WHO YOU ARE!!!

God I hate that place!

It's so sterile, you can give birth on the floor.
It's so sterile, you can safely bathe in the toilet bowls.
It's so sterile, that when we lose, it's never a "dirty day".

I love Carlton, but I hate that wasteland where we play our games.

Next you'll be telling us not to travel on the Titanic. I fail to see the point in debating this. The ground is not capable of hosting full scale games. The stands are falling apart and the facilities are abysmal. It needed millions spent on it and we didnt have 50 dollars! Like the flick pass, those days are gone. Its time to look forward.

The fact is that opposition fans voted with their feet and simply didn't bother coming to Princes Park. Holding onto tradition for tradition's sake is part of what saw us fall behind the pack yet some people are still unwilling to let go.

Changing venue had nothing to do with our demise, unless you want to include our lost "social club" revenue, lost "game day" revenue from TD deal, and lost "ground sponsership" revenue figures. All in the past though and I am fed up about fighting this but like anything all factual reports indicating otherwise are just irrelevant to most. It's all good though.

You can blame whoever it was that was behind the white elephant stand development for the eventual financial collapse of the club. Those idiots opened the door for Samuels & his henchmen to crush us and eventually control us. It was a forced move which no-one could stop from happening. MOVE ON!!!

As bad as Princes Park (as it should be known as) is, the hard financial fact is that the break even point for games there was much less than it is at Telstra Dome or the MCG. Another relevant financial issue is that Telstra Dome would have not been depreciated nearly as much as Prices Park has been, simply because it isnt as old and Princes Park - even when we take into account the relatively new stands there. And the higher that accumulated depreciation is, the lower the break even point will be. So even it a club makes more money by playing at a bigger and newer stadium, it might not translate into a bigger profit - because the costs that have to be met before you make your first dollar in profit are that much higher. This is a significant driver behind why smaller venues are better. However if you are an organisation run by very highly paid executives which is totally besotted and obsessed with the image, glamour and showiness of a national league. One which bows in a totally unquestioning way to the demands of Media royalty - Television = Head and shoulders ahead of any other reasonable but considerations such as 'tradition' , playing exclusively at large and quite new stadiums, well - these realities might not be very clear at all - until of course you get to read the financial reports a couple of years later and discover that small is in fact quite beautiful indeed.

Princes Park, I have been going there since 1964. Never sat in the Gardiner, Harris, or Heatley Stands for a match. Always stood in the outer, in front of the tin shed on the half forward flank, or in front of the press box. I wish the club had moved it's home games to the MCG years ago when originally asked. Then we would not have been financially burdened by the white elephant of Elliot and Legends Stands. ie club broke. Opposition supporters hated going there. People are used to comfort and the better facilities that aren't provided at PP. Car parking and public transport was/is hopeless. I live in the southern suburbs and it took well over an hour to get home by car (only 12 km from CBD). Trams? Sometimes it was quicker to walk into the city. The MCG and Docklands are served by public transport and can move the crowds. The AFL should redevelop the Richmond ground (35-40,000) so that Melbourne clubs could play some poorer attended interstate matches there. (Add another 2 interstate teams in 2010.) It would also relieve some of the pressure off the playing surfaces of MCG and Docklands. Yes, PP has about that, but Richmond is in the sports prescint and it has great public transport, and it would be a new stadium.
