I've been playing around with a few analysis models concerning disposals and thought I'd have a look at the 5 game moving average disposal statistics for Walker, Carrazzo, Simpson and Bentick to see what I might find. They are all roughly the same age and have played similar number of games with similar amounts of game time.
The results are as follows:
The good news is everyone is heading northwards which is an encouraging sign.
The 5 game moving average is an average of the players disposals in the previous 5 games at each point in time. It's a good indication of how a player is travelling over a time period, analysing their performance in five game blocks.
The ball-magnet that is Carrazzo is the clear stand-out, with a break-out at around 30 games before a short decline followed by a steady rise to close to 30 disposals towards the end of 2007.
Walker also experienced a break-out at around the 30 game mark before a plateau averaging around 20 followed by a steep rise in the final dozen or so games of 2007.
Simpson has had an interesting journey with his very slow start, but once he had found his feet his rise is steady and steep before a drop around the 40 game mark. After the quiet period he then quickly returned to his earlier levels.
Bentick had a break-out very early in his career against Collingwood and was very consistent thereafter though on a slight downward trend before a very late rally upwards in the last ten games to have a very strong finish with an excellent average.
Mindless fun.
