Interesting list of 28. You'd think the 22 for Round 1 will come from those (plus Nick Stevens), so we would have to drop 7.

Russell
O Hailpin
Bannister
Anderson
Armfield
Edwards/Hartlett
Pfieffer/Jackson/Kruezer/Grigg?

I know not everyone can play but, I'm disappointed Steven Browne didn't get another run. From what was written on the Carlton v West Coast on Alien Nation Radio thread he played well. Would have liked to have had the opportunity to actually see him play before the season starts.

Agree with above except:

Setanta in ,Bower Out

Jackson Out

Undecided on Hartlett/Edwards, might come down to who performs well against Doggies

It'll be all out against the Doggies to stake a claim in the first 22. I believe Kreuzer will play round 1.

The 7 to be left out imo will be:

1. Armfield (just starting; should make the grade in the future)
2. Anderson (although he's my pick as the future BP)
3. Edwards (overrated at this stage)
4. Pfieffer (good draftee...let himself down against the Hawks)
5. Jackson (a great tagger, possible HB...but we have a few of them to choose from)
6. Russell (needs to learn to find the footy in the twos)
7. Bower or Setanta (both would be playing for a back position this Friday)
8. Hartlett or Setanta (I think if Waite playes CHB, then CHF is out of these imo)

Give me Setanta over Bower too.

Bannister wasn't on the radar till his great effort in the Ants2 weeks ago, and solid hit out against WCE....may be our utility...imo better option than Edwards, Russell, Jackson and Pfieffer atm; I expect Pfieffer to braek into the 22.

I remember Synbad predicting Pfieffer to play all 22 games.

I think he needs to come in through the bullants

how can you say Jackson out? I would have thought he would be one of the ones that would be a certain starter in round 1

I think based on kicking three last week against a fairly strong Eagles team Edwards deserves another crack, unless they are happy with his work thus far and he will get gig against Richmond regardless of playing this week or not.

Setanta should be playing he needs the game time. If it gets down to himself and Bower then Bower should have a rest as he's played every game so far (hasn't he)? Disappointed Browne doesn't get another opportunity to impress.

Who else is going to the game? I will be in the Heatley for the last time. If there was a good way for the the great Heatley stand to bow out, seeing Judd's first game for the Blues would have to be up there.

Post subject:  Re: Squads for NAB Challenge Match

FB: Thornton, Jamison, Grigg
HB: Scotland, Waite, Bower
C: Walker Carrazzo, Simpson
HF: Judd, Hartlett, Houlihan
F: Kreuzer, Fevola, Betts

RCK: Cloke, Gibbs, Murphy

INT: Jackson, Hadley, Hampson, Carlos

EMG: Pfeiffer, Russell, Bannister, Edwards, Anderson, Armfield,

Tough to call.

Edwards kicked 4 against a strong Eagles defence and probably deserves another crack at it.

JR needs to stamp himself in the Bullants over a month before he gets another crack IMO.

Bannister is always the first to be culled on my list each year, but always gives his all and when on song is actually a pretty good player. At this stage without many injuries he might struggle to get a game.

Anderson and Armfield - See JR

Pfeiffer I'm not sure about yet. I want him in my team, but until form lines begin to appear I'm not sure he will be best 22 from that list.

Did anbody actually watch Pfeiffer against the Hawks?????

If you've still go the tape, then go back and have a look. Watch the hard ball gets and watch the attack on the footy. There will be several occasions he'll get the ball that I bet you won't have noticed the first time through the tape... they were so clean and quick that it was over in an instant. Sure he didn't own the ball like he did against Port, but he brings that hardness to the team we don't otherwise have. Oh... and while you're having a look... watch Pfeiffer monster Jordan Lewis away from Hadley when Lewis decided to push Hadley's face into the dirt.

I just wish the discussion wasn't about how to fit one Darren Pfeiffer into the squad for round one, but how to fit about four or five Darren Pfeiffers into the squad for round one!

Interesting that Setanta is named. The HS wrote this week he had a injured knee..... Well, it was the HS after all. Hope he is OK - I see him as our potential best FB.

I thought it was Aisake who injured his knee? I could be wrong though...

I think that the 22 for the first round match will be drawn from this list of 28. And the real point for me is which 6 are going to be left out and the pressure that this will apply on all of those named in the 28. Its been a long time since we've had this pressure and I have no doubt that it will reflect on how well the team performs. There is real competition for spots now. I fully expect that our 2nd and 3rd tier players will lift their performances considerably - if they don't there's someone else knocking on the door to take their spots YES! :)

We've started each season for the last five or so wondering how to fit everyone who has been flying all summer into the 22.
Usually takes about 5 or 6 weeks until we are watching the Bullants closer trying to make up a competitive 22!!
Hopefully this year will be different and we can sustain the competitiveness deep into the real stuff.
