I purchased this book on the weekend. Fantastic book. I would recommend it, even with the high cost of the book. There are some great photos of his Carlton days. At the back of the book, they have details on his playing/coaching career. One thing that intrigued me was that he can 3rd in the best in 1966 even though he only played eight games... what the?? The 1967 b & f - fair enough. Runner up with 20 games, but to finish 3rd in the b & f with eight games. Were the same people counting in 1966 who counted the votes for Whitnall in 2006? Very odd. |

That is a bit weird. Have a look at the Blueseum stats. John Goold got many more Brownlow votes, but came below Barssi in the B & F. He was the main man then, and may have been doing the voting ![]() Best & Fairest http://www.blueseum.org/tiki-index.php?page=1966+Best+and+Fairest+Votes Brownlow http://www.blueseum.org/tiki-index.php?page=1966+Brownlow+Votes . |

I was not in any way intending to be disrespectful to the powerful legacy of Ron Barassi at Carlton, I was just amazed that one could achieve a placing in the best and fairest with so few games played. What the book does tell me is that Barass had a great game in the 1967 final against Geelong. It would be great to see the footage of that match, but I think the footage has gone for ever unless Channel 7 miraculously kept it. There were some great photos in the book of him taking his first mark and first kick for the club. Glenferrie was packed to the rafters. |
