before ydays game you see teague lining up on stafford and throughout the day we looked grosely undersized.

you look across the side and check who can go back and who has the size that could play on a so called 'giant' and you see prenda.

the guy is massive, built like a brick shithouse, should we try develop him into a kpp given his size or what?

what are other peoples thoughts

i really dont knwo what position he can play lol

He hasnt worked as a forward or a backman

He dosnt play small or tall

Only role i ever seen him play is as a backup ruckman and that prob didnt work either

And if you look at him you would think he got the hight / size to play KPP. i am continiually told he has a big Tank in endurance ???/
Maybe someone else knows what position he should play ?

Ruck rover or wing.

Great bloke, average footballer. He has had plenty of time to establish himself as an AFL footballer. He has been in the system for 6 years......I think the time has come to look at others in the VFL for our future.

Yes

his only role is ruck/follower. He's pretty hard at stoppages, and provides a big body.

But he can't play back and can't play forward... not long-term anyway.

I seriously reckon Prender and DeLuca can't play in the same team (if French is in). Prender is our number 2 ruck...... I think he does that job adequately.... and provides a bit of mystery to the side. Who does their ruck run with? Prender... (who runs with him and off him).. or French, who's dropping into the hole.

Creates doubt.

Prender is just a really short ruckman

Prender is indicative of a majority of our list.
Big heart, but lacks the polish required to push this team into the 14-16 win catergory.
Unfortunately for us we have about 25 players that fit into that catergory. We need to get those type of players down to 10-15 maximum and we will head in the right direction.
No names required we see these blokes week in week out.

Do you reckon we should look at getting blokes like Russell in the side and just give him a go? A bit of polish (though a young one) around all the hard wood?

Why throw the kid to the wolves? I have seen him play in the Bullants 4 times and in a few practice matches and he his just not ready. Let him play 15 or so games for the Bullants and if his form suggests he is ready for a senior game do it towards the end of the season.

Exactly, there's no point playing the kid every week if he's just going to have 5 or 6 posessions and spend most of the match on the bench. It'll destroy his confidence. Let the kid earn his debut while using Wiggins and co on the frontline to protect Russell and Hartlett until they're really ready in body and mind to compete at the top level.

For what it is worth.
Prenda has been tried several times as a key forward and backman but has not been able to deliver in those positions. He is a tall run with player who can use his size and height plus endurance to tag the opppositions best onballer.

As a key position player he doesn't read the play well and doesn't know how to use his body against a player of similiar size. Match him up on a player a couple of cm's smaller and he can use his height to reach over the top and spoil marking contests and at throw in's he can plant himself between the player and the contest or on the defensive side and use his bulk to stop them.

His competition for a spot in the team is Bannister. We have a few weaknesses in the team and they were badly exposed by the Tigers and our group played very poorly making it a lot worse. We got the ball and fumbled missed targets and it spread through the whole team.

We all know we lack height down the spine. We lack quick running support for Stevens on ball and a running midfielder who can win the contested ball at stoppages and create the play. We need to get to the stage where we use Kouta only occasionally in the centre. We also need another ruckman and we need some contested marking options up forward.

I thought we got the ball into the forward 50 a lot of times and because we couldn't mark it overhead it came straight back out again. The Tigers rotated their midfield until they matched Johnson up with their faster players and he was left behind. Tuck got his hands on the ball at the centre contests and fed it out and from there we were chasing butts. Given they were running forward of the play the Tigers always seemed to be running free and then had the time and ability to spot up their forwards.

Should be in the midfield in/under and play a more attacking role than the tagging role he seems to always have.

Not a good enough kick to go forward ( even though he did kick the sealing 9 pointer in the wizard GF )..

I think Prenda is great. Wish he was a better footballer though.

This is the problem we all have with him - love him but..

Prendergast will be delisted at the end of the year. Can't play in defense, can't play in the forward line, doesn't possess the ball enough and not damaging enough by foot when he does get it. He's too small to be a ruckman and he's not good enough to be a midfielder. The end is nigh for Prendi I'm afraid.

Now I know some people might think I'm overreacting to the loss but that really has nothing to do with it. He's not good enough and he won't be getting any better. We need to move on and give other players opportunities to show what they've got.

Tyrant,

If you are going to quote me then quote me.
What I said is that he is not ready for senior football at the moment.

Wasn't Kevin Sheedy quite a big wrap for Prendergast? I think he actually might have some trade value - maybe more than we think. I'm sure many will disagree but I think Prendergast is reasonably regarded at Essendon*. We're not talking 1st round draft pick quality mind you but probably a player or later pick. I think he could work as a sweetner in a 3 way deal. Will be interesting times come trade week.

If Prenda can't secure some sort of permanent role in the team over the next month or two then I'd be surprised if he was still on the list next year.
