I have managed to make contact with an ex-Blue Bird from the famous 1980s and will conduct an interview about what it was like being a part of the club at the time. It will appear as an article on the Blueseum.

I'd like to know about the incident at the SCG, we played the bombers up there around 1981 and before the game a bluebird got attacked by a bombers scumbag, from memory he ripped off her skirt. I think it was in retaliation to a carlton supporter running through the Essendon* banner

I'd be interested in knowing who's idea it was to can the idea, and who you'd have to see to bring the idea back?!

Great stuff, a real missing piece of the history of the Club.

I'd like to know the broad stuff like:

* which years did they do the job
* was there an interview process or did they jus tlook good?
* was there much interaction with the players
* was there ever a few losses in a row that made their job harder, or was there no real link between the players and their job
* were all the BlueBirds Carlton fans?
* did it pay well, was it enough to live off etc.

So Jars, does that mean you won't accept questions from Melvey, BO and Bondi Blue?

Rod Galt (former Carlton Player of the mid to late 70s) did some photography with "The Bluebirds" and I used to have a poster from that on my Bedroom Wall.

If you could find a copy of those posters would be good - as I recall they were typical 70s photos and very "pot-o-gloss" in make up - would be very dated now - but they all had very superior legs as I recall.

Jars....I've got interviews with 4 of the 5 main dancers with their corresponding photos...(photos from 1981).....but the article and interviews were written last year.

George Harris was the instigator; who wanted to copy the Dallas Cowboys Cheerleaders.

Their Contracts stipulated very strongly that there was to be no contact with the players.

It's a whole page of the Herald Sun which I'll have to scan and reduce so I can put it up on the site....or do you want me to leave it and put it up in the Scrapbook later in the year?

now please warbs, speaking of your name, did you see a headline in the paper on the weekend (think it was the age), somethin along the lines of "Warby Strikes It Rich" or something - quite amusing.

They were mainly Tony Bartuccio dancers from the Don Lane Show on Ch.9.....Tony choreographed the Bluebirds too.

They got paid $50 cash per match.

Anyway, the Bluebirds were a lot of fun to watch. I was glad Carlton were leaders in entertainment. We were the envy of all clubs when we had them cheering.

Sad when they were gone. Why I ask?
