Lance Whitnall welcome back- Blues
Quote:
Carlton chief executive Greg Swann said he hoped Whitnall had come to terms with the club's decision to drop him from the list.

"We would like him to come and do a farewell lap at the first game because he never got a chance to do that with his family and friends, and let the fans give him a a farewell," Swann said.

"He's always welcome around the club, he's a 200-game player, he's a best-and-fairest winner, and a former captain."

Good move and a great show of respect for a former Carlton star. :)

Never burn bridges is always the best approach. I'm really happy with this move.

Really hoping Lance accepts the invitation. It wasn't the best way for Lance to leave the club last year, but it had to be done. Lance is still a Carlton man, hope he comes back in some capacity. He can really impart some knowledge to the young blokes.

If I recall correctly he was offered a role around the club but he took his bat and ball and went home. I hope on reflection that he can see that the decision was best for all concerned. Good move by the club to continue to extend a welcoming hand.

As long as they don't throw doughnuts at him. Lance could be the first person ever to put on weight in a lap of honour.

Jeez can't we have one thread without bagging the guy?

He gave us some great highlights, he's moved on, the club has moved on. Some of you should move on too.

I stand up and cheer if he comes back for the lap of honour - for the 99 prelim if nothing else.

Yeah, now that Lance is done and dusted at Carlton as a player, I choose to remember the good times with him... his goal in '99, his amazing 2000 season as a 21 year old, his 8 goals from CHF against the Bulldogs in'98... etc.

I'm not bagging him. I seriously thing someone will throw an egg at him. It will be difficult to fingerprint the egg, because as we all know, the egg breaks upon impact.

Good on Lance if he can get down and support the club. He had some great moments early in his career.

On the joke side of things (lets not be too precious), if he is jogging a lap before the start of the Richmond game, how long do we expect the game to be delayed while he completes this feat? Will I have time to get refreshments and get back to my seat in time for the opening bounce?

Hear, hear!

And I agree with those critical of the Lance baggers. The jokes grew tired a very long time ago.
