Lets put the tanking discussion aside. I am very scared that whether we end up with picks 1 and 2 this year, or pick 6, or pick 10, or pick 16, those picks are going to move to 3 and 4, or pick 8, or pick 12, or pick 18 respectively. This is due to drafting concessions that will undoubtedly be given to the new teams, with the Gold Coast team looking to get concessions immediately according to the HS (which I know isn't the most realiable source but it still begs discussion). Now ordinarily I would say, ok, fine, you wanna set up a new club, you should give them draft concessions. But we have been bent over too many times. First through 02/03 being taken away, then through the ludicrous rule which saw us lose pick 3 in 2006 (and an opportunity for a hansen/luenberger/thorp/selwood). In 02/03 Collins screwed us over by not challenging the AFL to at least delay losing picks 1 and 2. Had he done this we would still have lost draft picks for 2 years, but it would have been in 2003 and 2004 (so andrew walker and jordan russell instead of goddard and wells). In 2006 we had advice we could challenge and win, but the Smorgon led board was too cowardly and were too busy begging the AFL for handouts to be able to mount a challenge. Enough is enough. If we get our picks downgraded, lets challenge this stupid system and bring the whole thing down. Once was painful. (2002) Twice was excruciating (2003). Three times was just inexcusable (2006). Lets show some true Carlton arrogance and not allow a fourth to happen. Whatever your views are of whether we want picks 1 and 2, or perhaps pick 3, or perhaps pick 8, I'm sure we can all agree we don't want whatever picks we do get to be downgraded. Who's with me? |

BO - you must have read my freaking mind, as I was thinking this very same thing about how we've hopefully dodged a bullet with the 2 expansion teams taking valuable early picks for the cellar dwellers of the next few years... While we're not going to do a '95 any time soon, we're not going to finish bottom 3 again in the next 5-10 years - so we should be safe. ![]() ![]() |

![]() You can never get back what was so patently and vindicitively ripped off from us by "Demetrispew" and the leastly lamented Ron Evans. ![]() We should have had Pick 1 and 3 in 2006 National Draft - and whilst Grigg and Hampson may become 200 game players for us - I would have liked to have had 2 of Gibbs, Hansen and Gumbleton. ![]() |

Who really knows what will happen this year, all it takes is Fisher being injured most season with Judd and a few others and we could come last,it's possible. It's possible also we could make the 8 but realistically probably 10-12.It would be a disgrace if we had little injuries and just moved one spot to 14. It's so important we don't carry 4 Pre Season wins going to the season i feel as any club is bound to lose one soon.We should start 3 wins 0 loses in the season to kick start us to trying for the 8 and we have the clubs to do it with, possibly St Kilda the big worry. |

I think that the AFL is pulling our chains BO. There will not be 2 additional teams in the AFL anytime soon, it's just a ploy to fast track the Roo's to the Gold Coast and maybe the Dogs to Sydney. By expanding the AFL to 18 teams will mean less money from the AFL to all teams, the clubs that will be most affected are the financially strugling clubs and the ones with poor brand recognition. This will effectively force the Roos to the Gold Coast as they won't survive in Melbourne with less cash. Once this is completed the AFL will turn it's attention to the Western Sydney market and start the push for one of the Melbourne teams to move there, more than likely the Dogs as they would ne a natural fit (no change of name or jumper) and need the cash. |
