With the update of the afl.com.au site this morning i assume it's not long until the Carlton site gets switched over. I notice the articles on the Carlton site have already been changed...

For those that know...will there be any significant improvements to the site?

I have been reading feedback on bigfooty on the new afl site, most people seem to like it but i'm not a fan myself. the header & nav looks good but the rest is pretty fugly - loads faster though.

Seems there stuffing around with stuff at the moment, article links are now leading to completely different articles about different teams.

What are your thoughts on the AFL site Jarusa?

I'm never really too fussy about web design. Although it seems to be a favourite topic that many people get worked up about.

It's as good or as bad as the last half a dozen designs.

If you have a brain you should be able to find what you want on most sites.

My biggest issue at the moment for Carlton is not the design of the site but the restrictions that the Telstra contract places on what the club cannot do online.

That is a huge issue IMO.

I hope the club seriously considers going it alone at the end of this five year contract. That's what I will be lobbying for anyway.

Haha, I just tried to load the new AFL site and all I have had for the past few minutes is a series of green circles trying to load.

Excuse the language but that site is flaming pathetic. I hope they sack the culpritt who hacked it

Na seriously that is the worst website of any professional organisation I have ever ever ever ever seen in my entire life working in IT. What a laughing stock.

The AFL site gets more bloated and flash-heavy with every new version. I agree with Jars that the Telstra contract is a millstone that needs to be removed before the club sites will be anything nearing awesome.

Essendon* deciding to run their own site was very astute on their part.

Oh dear. Less and less room for football and more and more room for gumph and sponsors.

I dont know much about websites but that ain't good.

I know that the creative director for the AFL website has a graphic design background with no webdesign knowledge at all. He wanted all his way, mass confusion between the 3 parties as the creative director was sourced out.

This is the only example that springs to mind of a site that continually gets worse with each iteration; not only that, but they seem to put it into production on the run, without any testing. Very shoddy and unprofessional, and quite unbelievable in this day and age. Two thumbs down.

While it appears that Carlton now place a greater emphasis on content, it's such a shame that the club's site is so closely linked to the Telstra-bred shambles that is the AFL site. If, as is usual, the makeover of carltonfc.com.au very closely mimics the AFL redesign, then we're in for another year of cruddy, non-intuitive layout and navigation, frenzied and haphazard overuse of Flash elements and everything else that is purely evil in web design.

This site is seriously poor. Where has the Round 1 results/stats disappeared too? Do i have grounds to sue if My Dream Team turns out bad all because I couldn't research form?

Why can't Carlton go the way of the eBombers and set up an independent site?! Then they can do what they want to and not be limited to the owner of the afl site!

If the new Carlton site is anything like the AFL site, and going by past performances it probably will be, it will be complete garbage, and more about ads than about footy, or Carlton.

If it goes that way, I'll never hit the site.

Yeah, I'm pretty sure that once the contract runs out we'll be uncontracted. Until then it appears as though we're bound contractually to the terms of the contract.
