Given that Channel 10 elected not to show it after our win on Saturday, it's nice to hear.

Nothing really new. Tried to type as I was listening.

Ratts said:

- Worked hard over preseason

- Focus of developing young players.

- Happy with Hampson, phieffer, armfield, bower getting experience.

- KB said he saw Bower against Swans last year and thought he looked good.

- Ratts says Hampson is a big boy. Bigger than Ackland. Hampson's quick and can jump.

- Talked about Kruezer saying AFL tempo is quicker. Ratts wants Kruez to find he feet and get more experience. Ratts said used Kruezer more in the forward line on the weekend.

- KB mentioned Fev talking about finals. Ratts said group is confident but they just need to get the process right and the rest will take care of itself.

- KB asked about Carlton's style. Said last year, last six games under Ratts, we were possesion oriented. Ratts said we probably went over the top towards the end with too much possession. Just trying to find the right balance.

- Said Murphy put on 3 kgs and Gibbs put on some weight as well. Weight program put in place has been outstanding.

- Said Gibbs role with blues will still be flexible. Said it was good move by Pagan to play gibbs in defence in his first year. Said Gibbs will play more in midfield and forward this year.

- Thornton been in coach's ear to play forward. Been in Ratts mind to put him there to try him out a bit.

- If Thornton does go forward to pinch hit, Jamieson can take over. Jamo has really developed. Waite can also cover the key position. Thinks midfield can take some pressure off the backmen by putting on more pressure.

- Stevens got through the game ok.

- Says we have a very good range of midfield players.

- Focus is still on Rd 1 whether we keep winning in NAB Cup or not. Important thing to keep developing young kids.

- Says players voted on leadership group. Rated from 5 4 3 2 1.

- Fev ecstatic to be voted into leadership group.

- KB says Fev can really be a very good leader if he can stay on the right track.

- Ratts sat down with Fev for a meeting to explain that he has a very big presence in the Carlton Club. If he is up and about, he is a very positive force. Says in preseason, Fev has been very good and showing the way.

- Regarding captaincy, board meeting tonight and the topic will come up. Announcement will be made down the track. Ddin't say when.

- Says Judd has done everything right. Hasn't gone 100% yet, but will be playing Rd 1.

- Asked supporters to sign up and come down to TD this week and watch the game.

Prolly sames as exsing, but here goes...

- Hampson played well, good development for him
- Pfeiefer emerged as player, great opportunity for him
- Armfield, Bower more experience, pleased with development of kids
- Hampson 201c, MK 200cm, Hampson athletic will be asset this season
- MK, getting a feel for AFL footy, he said the Port game was much quicker than Saf game
- MK used as forward against Port, won’t throw him into ruck straight away
- on Fev talking finals and winning 11 games: with confidence our group can achieve, but have to get game plan right and the “process” right, then wins will take care of themself
- Played okay against Port, but a lot of room for improvement
- Use more possession under Ratts, went over the top towards end of 07, trying to get balance right between possession and attack
- Our pressure helped against Port and forced them into unnecessary possession
- Kids have bulked up, Murphy has added 3kg, Gibbs as well, maturing and weights program helps them
- Gibbs position for 2008 will be flexible, thought it was okay for him to play in defence in 07, crticism of Pagan unfair, will play more midfield and forward this year, although some defence as well
- T-bird up forward kicked 5 goals on Manton in an intra club game as a kid, might get a few more pinch hit roles up forward
- If T-bird goes forward; Jamison is developing, has added 4kg, want to settle Waite as key backman can match it athletically with key forward
- T-bird and Bower to float through defence
- Total team defence has to improve to help restrict opponents, midfield needs to pressure around stoppages a bit more, still need to improve
- Really good group players in midfield now with Judd and Stevens, have enough quality to rotate and pressure opponents
- Winning some games gives confidence, balancing act to add experience to kids, but keep competitive, will keep same focus for rest of NAB Cup to make sure kids keep developing and ensure gameplan becomes more familiar
- Fev voted into leadership group via 10 point criteria, rating 54321, top 6 guys got into group, Fev happy to be voted in
- Fev has great presence and on field he can lead the way, when he’s on form he’s great for them team, his pre season has been great, his rehab was great
- Captaincy to be named in next fortnight (KB's words), board meeting tonight will start talking about more seriously, announcement down the track
- Judd has done everything right, hasn’t exploded 100% yet, on schedule to play R1
- Cameron Cloke, another game under his belt, will benefit from game, a la Stevens, both will improve
- Plugged membership, come along to watch the Hawks game, get on board a great time to be involved with the club
- Aiming for 40K members this year

I was hoping to hear Ratts mention Setanta as part of that defensive group when speaking about T-bird. Only mentioned Jamo and Waite. I hope I am not reading too much into all this but his omission and today have me thinking (conspiring) that Setanta might be out of favour somewhat

Yeah well done Exsing, I heard the interview and that's a pretty spot on report of what was said.

I don't listen to SEN very often as I'm an interstate supporter. So therefore I don't have much exposure to KB's radio exploits.

I was pretty gob smacked at how sloppy this guy is with his interviewing and commentary. Some of the terminology that he used when talking to Ratts was blunt and crude - mentioned Fev's onfield behaviour as sometimes being a disgrace, and said that whilst we won the NAB cup in previous years we were belted in the normal season. Which is all true of course but when you're interviewing the coach of said club, surely there are better ways to raise these issues.

Also he spoke about Jamison and said that 'by all reports' he had a good game on the weekend. Does that mean that KB didn't watch the game on Saturday? How can he be in the position of running a football orientated radio programme -- which is littered with opinionated interview questions -- without having actually watched the previous game that was a main topic of discussion?

Nah, I wouldn't read too much into it. Out of six defensive positions, he mentioned only Waite and Jamo. Doesn't necessarily mean Setanta is out of favour. Although it does seem like Jamo is earmarked for FB and as we all know, Waite for CHB.

Maybe he is intending to have Setanta as a running wingman or half back flanker?

We will know more come Rd 1.

.

He also couldn't help but mention that the Blues haven't won a game in 200+ days. What a fwit.

Juddy must have only been using only about 50% of his cardio there.

This is one move I never really had a problem with. The backline can be a great place to learn to be accountable, while at the same time being able to set up attacks. Throwing him straight into the midfield would've been a bit much, especially without any senior players to really help out.

Putting Gibbs in the leadership group on the other hand :garthp:
