Lawrence Angwin - The kid could have been anything. Had more natural talent in his little finger than 80% of footballers in the AFL. I still remember one passage of play against the Eagles @ Subiaco. Such a pity and a waste |

Agreed, great thread and Phillips is most definitely the one that got away in terms of injury. This bloke could have been anything! Adrian Whitehead was the next Robert Harvey IMO the way he moved and had beautiful disposal. Justin Davies could have been a star under the right tutelage. Karl Norman had soooo much talent, God knows how we lost him. This guy was the next big thing IMO. The worst thing we ever did to our club was bringing in that nob Angwin cause he took Norman down with him. |

He wasnt given the flick due to not making it... If I wanted someone to kick straight to save my life I would have chosen Ross Ditchburn..... Peter Motley doesnt deserve to be in the " not making it bracket".....he never got a chance...as you said absolute tragedy ...he would have made it and probably won a brownlow he was that good. Allan Montgomery came over with Ross Ditchburn from WA and started well in the preseason but never kicked on........cant remember what happened to him though....maybe someone else can ? |

I was a fan of James Cook for most of his career. A young full forward who could kick a bag wearing navy blue seemed like a dream come true duing a era when every other club seemed to have a dominant full forward. |

If there was ever an example of one guy carrying an entire team it was Hopper doing this last year for Wangaratta Magpies in the O & M where they won the premiership and he won the league B & F. Hopper McCormick = courage/skill/fantastic footballer. |

Off the field James Cook was lazy. He was a lazy trainer and drank lots of p*ss and ate sh*t food. He showed Carlton fans what could have been. Think he is playing in QLD now. |

Seen a lot of footballers come through the doors at CFC,and i can say without any hesitation that Stephen Oliver was easilly the most gifted player that never made it.But that was his choice unfortunately.A brilliant and gifted footballer that just didnt want to be here.If he had of stuck around he would have been spoken of in the same revered manner as the likes of Big Nick,Jezza,Sticks etc.A truly magnificent footballer. |

I think Simon Verbeek would be one that falls into the category of giving it his best shot but just falling short of the mark in the AFL. I first saw Simon playing for Oakleigh in the VFA. Was a gun player at that level. Was BOG in the 2nd Division grand final in 1988 playing CHF. Came over to the Blues in 1989 and did very well early on but couldn't go on with it. |

I was at one of his first games against North where he took an absolute specky and thought man, this kid is going to be huge.... Two of my favourites were Warren McKenzie and Darren Ogier. |

Here is one from left field - from the early 90's - Paul McMaster - good size chf - only played ressies - He wore the number 42 i believe. I think he then went on to play for sandy in the vfl. |

Another player - probabaly late 80's - was jeremy smith - dont know why we got rid of him in the end - seemed like we showed patience with him and then he got a game in the one's - played ok and then was delisted. very strange. |
